First time out with new coach was a winner

It is often said the first game with a new coach should be won. Although it was not like that last season the rule has been proved again for new coach Garcia Tebar.

CD Tenerife were in the Fuensanta grounds with new coach Garcia Tebas and new forward Lusmi Loro who has arrived last week to help the team.
Both sides had good chances in the first hold and the score could have gone either way. Chechu Flores had a shot at goal after 10 minutes and pushed it over the long goal bar. After 21 minutes Kiko Raton came off injured and was replaced by Gran Canarian player Aridane. One and a half minutes later new player Loro centred the ball from the left wing to Aridande and the forward headed the ball in the goal putting the blue and white team into the lead.After that the Conquense players fought back and Ruano, shot the ball at the post from the area and then eight minutes before the half time whistle Morillas and the wind shot at goal and Sergio pushed the ball over the goal leaving the team at 0-1 at half time.

Straight after the players came back on the field the blue aand white players scored their second goal. A ball centred by Ferran Tacon was knocked in towards the far post by Chechu Flores. The island tam then tried to finish off the game but a clear penalty in the 57th minute was ignored by the referee and he then signaled a foul and second yellow card against Tarantino and he was then sent off. The team were now down to 10 men.
Six minutes later Conquense scored and bought the result to 1-2 with a goal by Vinuesa.

In the final minutes of the match the local team pushed hard to at least try to equalise and save themselves a point and they had several chances but the blue and whites pulled together and held the result adding three important points to bring home with them.

"Movido" weekend

The Spanish have a word "Movido" which leterally translates to mean with movement but can also mean change or excitment. This is how I would have described last weekend.
There were changes in the starting eleven, Kiko wasn't paying and Aridane was starting up front, but just the one forward. Abel from the youth squads was in mid-field for the first time and yet again the team had changed. Calderon has only played the same squad twice this season. They came out on the field and looked good but a lucky play Guerrero scored for Sporting B. CD Tenerife had various chances but the ball didn't go in. Then Juan Muñiz scored a second goal for Sporting B from a free kick. The blue and white players never gave up and tried continually until half time to score.
At half time Tenerife decided to through chance to the wind and took off Medina and Abel bringing on Kiko and Nico. This left Chechu on the right with Kitoko as the only midfielder, the two giants up front and Nico behind them. The goal wasn't far behind and with a Sporting defense mistake Aridane took his chance and put the ball in the net.
The draw came with a penalty against Nico which Perona converted into a goal. But Sporting found an chance and scored their third goal.
The game finished with the fans shouting "Caalderon quit" and shortly after the match Sports manager Pedro Cordero announced that thecaoch had been sacked.

There is talk about the new coach but nothing has been confirmed bythe club

Calderon said goodbye to the players this morning and the new coach is expected this afternoon or tomorrow.

When a draw feels like we lost.

Funny day yesterday, on the back of a 0-4 win in Alcala de Henares 500 CD Tenerife fans journeyed to Gran Canaria to the town of Vecindario. One of the smallest teams in the 2B league they are on the east coast of the island. The ferry companies decided they couldn't delay the ships so 90% of the visitors went by plane. All day from where we sat in the Comercial centre Atlantida we coud see fans arrive and spend their hard earned money in the little town. As the game time came closer the Tenerife fans walked together singing towards the grounds only to be met by jeers from UD Las Palmas supporters. Not sure why they were there if it wasn't to provoke.
The police were not to be seen but still the blue and white fans continued onto the football field.
There was no trouble at the grounds I saw, although I have seen some comments on twitter that the police felt the needed to create a path between the blue & whites and the yellow fans by hitting the Chicharreros with their batons.

The game started with the Tenerife fans in one corner together singing, a banner was produced by the Zoneros, one of the bigger fan groups saying "Pablo Sicilia was an outstanding Canarion" (From Gran Canaria not the Canaries) and there were around the edge of the corner represenative banners from thefan clubs; Armada Sur, Frente Blanquiazul, Irish Clan and Zoneros.

The game was hard fought with neither side having many shots at goal, when right at the end there was a foul against a blue and white player in the box and the linesman called penalty. A goal!!!! Perona scored but the euphoria was short lived as five minutes later from a corner Vecindario scored.
A point to the total and a journey home. The faces on the fans in the airport said it all, but those same loyal fans will be in the stands on Sunday supporting the side at 12.00 against Sporting B.

Start of the rest of the season

The holidays are always a quiet time. But now things are starting to move again. The team have signed two new players Adriane from Gran Canaria via Leganes and Raul Llorente. The first is a big forward and the second is a left back.
There is talk on the mainland that the club has received an offer for Marcos Rodriguez from second division team Cartageña, but this hasn't been confirmed by the club.

Luna has rescinded his contract and is now playing in Ecuador. His final comments when interviewed were, " I have a clear mind, I have always tried my best. I have seen everything here, I have played and sat on the bench, I have gone up and come down a league and Itake with me the best of those times and will forget the rest".

The team plays tomorrow in Alcala de Henares at 11am Canarian time and is not televised. They are in the middle of the table and an away win would be great. The team hasn't won away for four months so it must be our turn. We will be putting out updates on facebook and on twitter for those who want to keep up with what is going on.

Christmas cheer

Christmas is a quiet time for football in Spain. The teams break on the last Sunday before the 24th and usually are off until about the 28th. They then start to train and they play their first game in January. The first two games of the season are away although I hope to go to both. The first is in Alcala de Henares in the outskirts of Madrid and the second in Vecindario, Gran Canaria. This second is the first organised trip of the season and the first organised trip I have been on. We are going with the Zoneros who are one of the newer fan clubs although now one of the bigger groups.

I was at their christmas presentation where the littlest members were presented with kits from the club. This was a great even and I was honoured to be there. They were also at the same time presented with a plaque from the Irish Clan, theCDT´s latest peña (fan club) for the assistance given by the Zoneros last weekend in the collection of food and toys in the last game of the season.

There have been information in the papers that the club has found some solutions for some of their financial problems. The plot of land where the youth teams train in La Laguna is heavily mortgaged and with little income the club has had difficulties. This month "EL Dia" claims the island government will take over part of the mortgage and part of the land (the back plot). The front plot will be taken over by local businessmen which leaves the club with the main training area and access to their plot. And considerably less debts. More information will be available in the AGM held at the end of this week. President Miguel Concepcion has promised to talk after the meeting to the press.

Although there are still rumours about possible signings nothing has been confirmed and I think it may well be towards the end of the month of January before we hear anything. Someone talked to me that Omar might be coming back but I can't find any source for this.

The club website today has an article withan interview with two of the strongest voices in the dressing room, Sergio Aragoneses and Kiko Raton. Their comments included their hopes for the rest of the season, how they plan to play for everything, how loyal they feel to the team, the club and the fans. "It is incredible this year, 9,000 season ticket holders, how much that helps. At home we need to be invincible as we have been up to now. and we need to create an special atmosphere for the 10 game that are left especially against our direct rivals".
They both hope to take the team back to professional football where it belongs for the fansto bring them some happiness, especally in times like these where football has a special part in peoples hearts.

CD Tenerife 2- 2 Marino de Luanco

I have a very positive nature and am sure everything will come right soon but the final result yesterday was a great pity. CD Tenerife looked really good yesterday in the first half. They had chances and made the most of them. Not sure about the beginning of the second half, but the team is still third and going into the winter break in play off positions is a good thing.
The fans were very fed up with the final result and there was twice a call for the coach Calderon to go. In his interview afterwards he stated, "We worked hard to secure our position but it didn't work out". when asked about the fans he commented that, "I am pleased that the fans come week after week. I have the management support and consequently will go on training".
The players are off now until after xmas and they then start to train for the game against Alcala de Henares on the 8th of January. It will be interesting to see if we have new players by then.

1000 apologies

I always liked the concept of 1000 apologies and right now it seems appropriate. This week has been chaotic and I haven´t managed to blog at all. After a period of negotiation we signed a rental contract with the club last week and are now renting the shop site they have underneath the club offices. We opened Monday after two days sorting out the shop and on Sunday a visit to Gran Canaria to go to Primark. ( For home not for work).We are open Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 13.30 and 16.00 to 20.00, Saturday we are open all day until the weekend of the 6th and after that from 10.00 to 14.00.

I had picked last weekend to journey across the water as it was clear that the game in Oviedo wouldn't be televised, thinking it would be more or less quiet. You know what they say about the best laid plans!!!

The team had to lose a game at some point and better now away against Oviedo who were destined to be strong even if they had a bad start than later when we have the run up to the end of the season. Listening on the radio they played well and were just unlucky with a great shot at goal. We are still fourth and the game against Marino del Luanco should be three points for us.

The sale of second round season tickets seems to be going well and fans are coming through the shop looking for blue and white gifts for their loved ones.

The team break for the Holidays after the game and will be back after xmas. There is talk about a trip to Vecindario but I haven't yet seen anything confirmed. There seem to be various names in the pot for the forward who might come and I will update the facebook page with the news articles as I read them.

Better played but only a draw

In one of the better games this season CD Tenerife only managed a draw. 0-0 was the starting and final result in a very balanced game.

CD Tenerife let Atlético de Madrid B (0-0) get away with a draw in a very balanced game. The blue and whites played a good first half and in the second half slightly let their guard down. In the first few minutes Víctor Bravo, Perona, Tacón & Chechu could have scored. The audience were awesome and with almost 9,000 people in the stadium it was the best audience in Segunda B and only two stadiums had better crowds in segunda. Las Plamas wasn't one of them. The first half was even and at the break the result was still 0-0.Calderón again chose to put Kitoko in central defence something we saw several games last year too. David Medina was therefore in midfield with Marcos. In the second half Atletico had more chances and Calderón made the fist changes offensively bringing on Kiko Ratón & Nico for Marcos & Chechu. In the last few minutes the opponents went all out for a win and Aragoneses (71’) saved the ball from a shot by Fer and shortly after, Pedro Martín (73’) put the ball over the bar. CD Tenerife kept on trying and Kiko Raton fought hard as the minutes passed. The score never changed and CD Tenerife has now played eight games at home without a loss, a position that it is a privilege to be in. There are only three games left of the fist round and next weekend the team are away to a side who are also fighting hard for a play off position.

Money trail

There has been a lot of talk on linethis week about the clubs finances. The accounts for the season 10/11were released and they make for sad reading. There is no question ifwe had stayed in La Liga we would have been better off. But thingsare what they are. Without doubt the team can not afford to stay toolong in Segunda B.

Figures released for the last season have been compared with the previous years in the press and thefigures here are from the Zonablanquiazul website.

Television

Television money was 14 million for theyear in primera, 2,5 million last year and 70,000 this year for theseason. There will be extra money should the club make the playoffs.

Seasontickets

Therewas 6 million euros taken in season tickets in primera and 2,950,000€last year. This years figures haven't been released but with nearly5,000 less season ticket holders and a 30% reduction in cost it willbe considerably less.

Stadiumpublicity

Inprimera was 1,1 million and segunda was 580,000€

Theclub has as an asset the land in Geneto which has been valued at15.885.884euros(not sure when) and the Cabildo has promised to buy this. They willbe purchasing it but they have already given the club 4,2 millionagainst the purchase which is what the club played the players within June.

Thedebts total 38.269.956,45euros,of which 21.476.935,52need to be paid off before the 30 of June 2012 and the rest16.793.020,93is on longer term loans. In the short term loans there are 4,7million which were due last June and have still not been replayed soperhaps there is room for manoeuvre.

Tenerife draw away again and Lugo's coach has sour grapes

Slowly and surely went the Turtle and the Hare ran too fast. Lets see if this is hopw the race to the end of two B works out for Tenerife. A draw away in Lugo was a good result marred only by Castilla's win against Athletico B.
The team started well yesterday and the promise which seems to hold was showing. Kitoko was in central defense which is not his natural position but he worked hard and was well paired with Ayoze. The team fought hard and looked competitive, showing that they are on the right path. Perona nearly scored after a play by Chechu and Zazo. Then Lugo scored and they seemed to grow and had several good chances but the blue and white players fought back finalising just before half time in a play by Victor Bravo with a pass to Perona which he put into the goal.
In the second half Lugo came out strong and controlled the ball but CD Tenerife aslo had chances including one from Kiko Raton after he came on the field. The island team were on a level with the team which up to last round had been leaders.
The game could have been a play off match and showed that CD Tenerife is on the right track.

Played in the Anxo Carro stadium. The ground was in average condition, on a cold damp morning with 2,500 spectators of which approx 150 were from CD Tenerife.

Calderon commented that he was pleased with the way the game had been played. The Lugo coach in a fit of sour grapes could only comment that one team went out to play and the other to stop the game. Perhaps no one had told him all is fair in love and war and certainly for the blue and white team this and every game is a battle to go back to professional football.

The next match is at home against Atl Madrid B on Sunday at 12.00

It's not great to be whistled at.

It is not unusualfor me to blog two days in a row but I was interested in commentsmade by the players in the newspaper El Dia and wanted to translatethem.

In interviewsafter the game all three players interviewed commented that it wasnot great to be whistled at especially at home.

The commentsincluded:

Chechu - "Weare pleased about the win, which is the most important thing but itisn't everything. When we reached the 2-0 unconsciously we moved backto hold the result and this is something we need to correct". Hecontinued, " We need more control over the ball and if we managethis we will be able to make the most of our results and enjoy thegames". A tale of two halves

If there was ever a game of two halves it was yesterdays game. The first half was great the team were together, played well and moved forward with two outstanding goals. The second especially by Perona was cool headed, he thought carefully before shooting and knocked the ball in goal.
The second half was different, the players came out and were either defending, relaxed or nervous depending on the point of view. Celta B then scored and this made everything worse.

The players are happy with the points that the club has now and 28 points after 14 games is in line for a play off position.

Four points out of six

There has been talk in the last few weeks about how badly the team is playing. There is no doubt they do not have the elegance of teams like Aresnal or FC Barcelona but four points out of six evey 14 days is not to be dismissed. There is no doubt that the fans, the players and the club would prefer that the team won every game but this is not so easy. CD Tenerife has always struggled away. There was talk on the tenerife forum form Finn Cris that "The problem for me is that the middle guy in the upper midfield trio is almost wasted the way we play". And then about home games "the 'home fortress' aspect is even more significant this season as I image almost all other teams & players rarely get to play in front of close to 10.000 fans & play in a real stadium so they may well feel a bit intimidated out there giving CDT an even bigger advantage at home than normal". Both of these are valid points of view add to which I would say the travel is difficult especially this year where there is little gap between travel and playing. This works both ways and may well account partly for why we have done well at home. I was calculating thare are 19 rounds at home and away. If we manage 4 points per fortnight this is 76 points a result which is not to be sneered at.
Pedro Cordero has stated since the pre-season that he is looking for another forward and an attacking midfielder. Both of these if he finds tham should help the team especially towards the end of the season. It would be great to finish first but we need to bear in mind Lugo were first last season and didn't make the play offs. The group we are in seems to be the strongest which is not only an advantage now as we need to play well to reach the points we need but also we can't be matched against the teams in our group in the play off.

Josmar has asked for a transfer, whether on loan or to change clubs he seems not to mind. I hope the player gets the chance to grow either here in Tenerife or perhaps a change of club on loan would be good experience. And one of the other B team players hasn't been to training for a week as he claims he is depressed. I feel sorry for the B coach as it seems to have been an odd week.

I love going to away games. The travel, being with other fans, arriving at the stadium and being there fan from home to support your team. Toledo was no different to other days. We travelled Saturday to Madrid and on Sunday morning took the train up to Toldeo. We were luck to meet Pedro Cordero in the way and he told us how he actually played a year there in the city and was looking forward to his brief visit.
We met up with other fans and went off for a drink. One of us had a hangover and needed croquetas for breakfast which was interesting. The rest of us had a drink and then headed up to the stadium.

The aways fans are at the end of the uncovered side, which was fine. Banners were laid out. and soon the match started. They played well in the first half with the team looking better than I have seen them this season.
We were robbed of a penalty through a hand ball in the second minute but the team just got on with playing. I loved seeing Ayoze play again. It is always special when we see local players in the team. Ruben Rosquete and German also came on but they didn't have that much time to make a difference.

We still need something more and we need to make the most of our chances. The game was very similar to the one in La Roda and San Sebastian de los Reyes. Ayoze: "We need to make the most of this point by winning this Sunday. Adding to our total is always important. Away from home it is almost impossible that a referee will call a penalty but we missed some good chances . We need to keep working. I personally plan to work hard and make things difficult for the coach so he has to pick me to play".

I have seen fields with cattle on them in better condition that the pitch in San Sebastian de los Reyes at the end of the match yesterday. I am not sure what the difficulty is with the pitch but it needs work. Maybe this is a plan to manage to win their home games as if you are not used to a pitch like that you would struggle to play there.That said we didn't have many chances, an early shot at goal by Zazo was the best chance we had. Although Kiko tried everything nothing seemed to turn out right and finally not long before the end of the game Antonio Calderon, the blue and white coach took him off exhausted. Sergio Aragoneses again had a great save and with the exception of the penalty has not received a goal for 3 games.

Win against Rayo Vallecano B

They say another day another dollar but here it is another game another win, for home games at least. Rayo B are probably the best team we have seen here in Tenerife this season. They fought hard but never really looked like they were going to score. I felt sorry for Luna as on the pitch it really didn't look like a penalty but having seen the replay I can't see how we can fight this with the federation. So he won't be playing next weekend. We are away to San Sebastian de los Reyes, they are a local team on the outskirts of Madrid. I wish I could make it but as we are going to Toledo I really can't justify going. There will be a good crowd as the university students are close enough to reach there and they don't need to walk miles when they reach the other end as they did for the RM Castilla game. There were just over 9,00 people in the stadium but even so there was a good atmosphere with the two main fan group singing to each other. The Frente Blanquiazul had a great display for the Canarian flag day with small papers which were the right colours across their area so this formed the flag.

Tickets will go on sale for the CD Tenerife v Rayo Vallecano B game from Saturday the 22nd of October from 10am to 1pm. and on Sunday from 10 am until the start of the game at 12.00. The team trained Wednesday and all were fit except Ruben Rosquete, Pablo Sicilia and Jesus Alvarez. Also present from the second team were Dani Mederos and Roberto. Thursday training was in the Heliodoro and the additional players were Alberto, Jairo & Sandro from the B team. Pablo Sicilia, Jesús Álvaro and Rubén Rosquete trained separately again. Pablo is now beginning to train with a ball.This week players interviewed included Marcos Rodríguez who was asked about the distance achieved by rival teams. He replied, “The competition has just started and although some teams have had positive results we need to stay calm and think about our games”. Richie Kitoko talked about how he was looking forward to “Sunday” to compete against Rayo Vallecano B: “Like all my colleagues, we want the game to come so we can correct our mistakes”.Ferran Tacon commented that the squad “want to make the point we won in La Roda count by winning at home”. He continued, “we want to make the fans happy. Rayo Vallecano B will make things difficult for us but we need to control the game and play the way we want to. I think the game will be open, with both teams trying to control the ball”. Christobal Juncal spoke of the match too, “Playing at home, where we are strong means we can win the three points. We are all aware that we can't let these points go. We are fed up with only gaining one point in the last 2 games. But the world didn't end with those games and we need to play from match to match. A point away is not to be knocked. Especiall if the team is La Roda and is the sensation in 2B. The team came up last year and are doing very well so far. Calderon's players came out and tried hard. Sometimes things don't seem to go their way and the first half was hard going. After the break they looked much better and should have scored. But things don't always go our way and we should be content with an away point and look forward to the next game against Rayo Vallecano B.

La Roda – CD Tenerife are preparing for the first time in the clubs history to play La Roda on Sunday. The team which is based in the town La Roda in the countryside near Albacete was founded in 1999. The team worked their way up the leagues and were promoted to 2B this season after three attempts at the playoffs.

It has been generally announced in the press that Club President has authorized the signing of two players either before the winter break if they can be found or in the winter window. There are rumours again about N'gal but as there are rumours every year about this player I am not sure how serious they are.

In reverse the website www.tenerifedeportivo.com has an article about the interest Recreativo de Huelva have in youth player Abel from Fuerteventura. He still has until the end of this year on his contract which would mean after January he could negotiate with Recreativo. The player has a B contract and this last weekend actually played for the B team against La Laguna.

The club took part in the sales area Exposaldo from Thursday to Monday and their stand was manned by members of the fan club Sentimiento Blanquiazul.

The team were due to train this afternoon but due to the yellow alert this has been cancelled by coach Antonio Calderon and they are due to train again tomorrow Thursday in the El Mundialito grounds. Rubén Rosquete & Pablo Sicilia were the only two players who didn't take part in the full session. I was able to talk to Pablo last week and he hopes to be back training in full with in a month and fit to play by the end of November. Chechu Flores seems finally to be fit and lets hope he is able to take part in a full match soon.

He was one of the two players interviewed today and commented, “I wasn't in any pain today and I am optimistic I will be fit to play on Sunday. I was to be able to play as I haven't been able to help the team before now. It is one of the worst things that can happen to a player”. He continued about Sunday's game saying, “La Roda are high up in the table for a reason. They are a tough team in their home ground and have lost very few points there. We are going to go all out to win but Tenerife is one of the rivals others really want to beat”.

The other player interviewed was Ferran Tacon who started by saying, “ We are going to La Roda to win the three points. It will be good to forget the loss against Castilla and above all pick up our game. We will tough need to be careful with the team who have just beaten Castilla”. He talked about how it is always hard to beat a team in a small ground and stated, “We like games with atmosphere, it motivates us”. When asked about last weekends game in Valdebas against the Real Madrid B team his comments were interesting. “We have forgotten the loss but we have learnt from out mistakes. We need always to try to improve. We are not used to the opposing team scoring first and this weighed hard on us. The game against La Roda on Sunday will be different. We are going to play a concerted game in the Municipal stadium. We need to play hard from the beginning and play our own style of game”, he finished.

INCIDENTS: The match was played in the Alfredo Di Stéfano stadium. The grass was in good condition and it was a warm morning, with approx 1500 spectators of which 150 were blue and white CD Tenerife fans. The club president Miguel Concepción, was in the stand.

Comments from the players included:Zazo: “The referee wasn't much help with several decisions. The 2-0 came very quickly and was a hard thing to bear. After the break we came out with the plan to change the dynamics.. When you come in off the bench you hope you can help the team".

Marcos: “We had a good plan which up to the 1-0 was going well but that goal changed everything. You can still learn from experiences like this. I am not convinced this was a yellow card. We went out to try but sometimes things don't work. We need to shoot more at the goal".Tarantino: “This was a painful loss because we had high hopes for the game. It was complicated and we fought hard. Once you are at a disadvantage it is always complicated to come back and more so if we are talking about an opponent like Castilla".
Kitoko: “We feel bad with the loss. After the pause we came back out ready to fight. We tried until the end and we looked to change the game. The penalty was important and it wasn't an intentional action. We were unlucky”.
Jonay: “After the penalty we went all out for the game, leaving spaces and they made the most of this. After the 3-0, we reacted well but we should have done this before. The team is still doing well, we know there are things to do and we need to work hard. These losses need to be looked at and mistakes corrected. We hope to do better against La Roda".

The team returned home on Sunday evening and train today and rest Tuesday.

The coach Calderon in his press conference stated, "we were playing well up to the first goal. The penalty was a tough call and in the last week there has been talk about how badly Madrid have been treated by the referees. Castilla were enthused by the goal and went from strength to strength".

Visit to the capital for the Madrid Castilla game.

As many of you know I like to get to as many away games as possible. This year as we are in a group with Madrid the season showed real promise as Ryan air are still travelling to the capital. August wasn't possible and September didn't have a game that was in the right place when I could get away but now things are looking up. This weekend we managed a quick break leaving Saturday afternoon late and returning Sunday afternoon. First away game of the season Real Madrid Castilla. This game has promise as two of their better players had red cards and a couple more will be away with the under 21's Spanish national team. Most of our players are fit with only Nico, Pablo and Ruben not completing a full training session. The squad train again tomorrow and then Coach Antonio Calderon has his press conference. The players train again Saturday morning before departing for Madrid in the afternoon.. They stay overnight in the centre of the city and will travel home Sunday afternoon.Players interviewed today were Richi Kitoko and Nico. Kitoko was first up after the training session in the Mundialito grounds. He seemed nervous about the game in Valdebas on Sunday. "It will be a complicated match against a direct rival. I hope I will be able to help the team", he started. When asked about the new tactics introduced by trainer Calderon he admitted that he was, " more comfortable next too the defence, the way he played against Montañeros. The other way I don't perform so well. Either way I do my best to help the tea.", he continued. Nico, a young player in the blue and white squad starting by explaining his injuries, "I have muscle strain and that’s why I am training separately. Friday and Saturday I will train with the group. We will then see if the coach takes me with him or not".The forward seemed optimistic about the teams progress and what he hopes the future will bring. "We are doing well. We are second in the table and winning regularly. Added to this the group is becoming cohesive. Ideally we will reach the end of the season in perfect condition. Not just as players but as a team. We are on the right path but need to do more", he finished.Volkswagen Canarias have renewed their sponsorship contract with CD Tenerife for another year. The presentation was held today in the Heliodoro Rodriguez stadium Present for the club was Ricardo Siverio, sports director, Pedro Cordero; trainer, Antonio Calderón; players Víctor Bravo & Kiko Ratón. Let me tell you why I like Monday

This could become adictive. I like the Monday morning we won feeling especially after a 3-0 win. The game yesterday could be divided into 2 parts. At no time did Montaneros look like they were going to score. They are a little team and yesterday it showed that we certainly are not a little team.The team came out of the field in the first half with a need to win that showed from Sergio all the way forward to Kiko Raton.

INCIDENTSPlayed in the Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez stadium. The grass was in a reasonable state, although it could have been better. It was a hot sticky morning, with 9.241 spectators.

The game was much better than previous games, although it still leaves something to be desired as far as some of the fans are concerned. Again in the second half there was some whistling as the fans were not too happy with how the blue and whites were playing. Antonio Calderón had promised after the loss against Getafe B that the team would get better. One of the differences was that Kitoko played in midfield, making a new design with three other midfielders. (Perona on the right, Víctor Bravo in the middle and Ferrán Tacón on the left) with Richi behind them. Meanwhile Montañeros decided on a 4-4-1-1 play style with Rivera as single midfielder and a strong defense. This didn't help them when in minute 6 Cristobal played the ball into the goal area and Ferrán Tacón started the scoring with a kick into the goal. This goal allowed the blue and whites to be calm and hold possession whilst they played tha ball. They had various chances and the 2-0 arrived with a shot by Kitoko. The player retrieved the ball in mid-field and took it all the way up the pitch with no oposition up to the edge of the area where he shot at goal and the ball hit one of the defenders and shot into the gaol. From there the CD Tenerife team took more control of the game. Aragoneses, who in the first half nearly didn't see the ball saw a shot at goal by Rivera (66’). And for some time Tenerife had trouble to keep the ball in their care. Montaneros continually tried to fight back and take possession. After an hour the fans were a little stressed and Calderon reacted bringing on Nico & Rosquete, though the game didn't improve. The driving force in the team seemed to be Ferran Tacon. In spite of everything the game was very much under CD Tenerife control and continued quietly on. In the final minutes Kiko Raton managed to score the definitive 3-0 with a header from a corner.

No Monday blues today

In theory a loss Saturday should make this a sad Monday but we are still at the top of the table and things are still looking good. 2 B was never going to be a walk in the park. CD Tenerife has changed nearly all their players and their coach. Whether this was the right decision or not only time will tell. The players was inevitable as they were not affordable and as CDT had been at least in the 2A league for the last 25 years there was no addition in their contract for what they would be paid if the team were relegated. As for the coach, I am not sure if the discussion helps. When Amaral was sacked there were fans who felt it was the right decision and some who didn't. That's the way opinions go. Sergio Aragoneses said yesterday on the club website, "There is a lot of pressure and you need to be able to take this". Lets hope he will help the other players take this responsibility. A player who has been present for two promotion years with CD Tenerife can surely make the difference and lead the other players through the stress this year may bring. Comments on the game on Saturday included Calderon: “We started well, although we didn't create many chances. We could have scored with the penalty, and then they did just that. In the second half we didn't find our way. We were missing something. We didn't give our rival any difficulties but also they gave us no problems". Ferrán Tacón: “This Sunday we need to show another side of the team and play differently to today". David Medina: “We are sad, but we need to hold onto the good things. We played properly and were a good side. We didn't score from the penalty but the team kept trying. The group wants to play well and hope to win the next game". Kiko Raton: “Sometimes help isn't there and things don't go your way. The stress of needing to win sometimes means you can't move the ball out of mid-field. We need to correct our mistakes and move forward. In spite of losing we played better than other games". Abel: “We are sad as we lost but now we need to think about the next game. A draw would have been fairer. In football the little things make a difference. they scored from their penalty and we didn't. I wasn't very good neither with the ball nor when our opponents had the ball. I am going to keep working so the coach will have faith in me".Perhaps the photo of the weekend was Mana Singer in a CD Tenerife shirt at the concert Saturday night in The Heliodoro stadium. The grass was apparently well protected and there is expected to be no problem with the pitch for the game this Sunday.

The local press was this morning full of how Luna was sent away from training yesterday early and after the session both Calderon and Cordero talked to him. Much was made of this event and what might happen in the future.This morning after todays training session Luna was one of the players interviewed, At this press event he stated he felt, "very comfortable, training well and helping my companions when it is not my turn to play. I think the coach is doing a great job. I hope to get the chance to play but I am not surprised that I don't play right now as the team have been winning. The important factor is the team and right now they have four wins and a draw. I need to keep working and correct my mistakes. It is normal that once you lose your place in the team that it is hard to make a space later. This happens everywhere. Added to this there are only 16 places and some very good players. I need to wait for my chances and try to make the most of them".The other player interviewed was Ferran Tacon, the Catalan midfielder talked about the game last weekend saying, "We need to hold on to the first 70 minutes and ask ourselves what happened in the last 20 minutes of the game. To repeat the things we did well and correct the mistakes we made towards the end of the match". He then continued talking about the team, "We need to play better and know that even if the score is in our favor we need to fight on. We need to hold onto the first half in Albacete and the 70 minutes at home against Coruxo" he added.To finish Ferran Tacon talked about the game this Saturday against Getafe B, "They are a team who try to play well, the play the gball and make the most of their chances. The chance to play in the Coliseo is an advantage for us and I hope the game will go our way. We need to keep winning".

CD Tenerife won another game.

Monday again and although it was not a good win still the team won and added three points to their total. The sad thing about the game was that the team was whistled at from about 15 minutes before the end of the game. The team were somewhat shocked with this but in some way I can see the fans point of view. The fans have seen two relegations one after another and have generally stood quietly and absorbed this. This year it seems that they will stand for nothing but continualy effort. The team with the goal just after half time and a man extra, realaxed and stood back. And the fans didn't like this.
The goal was scored by Ruben Rosquete who hasn't played in the Heliodoro with the first team for several years. He came on last week in Albacete and played well and the coach allowed him to start on Sunday. A young player who came up through the youth teams in Tenerife and played for Murcia in 2 B last year. A team who went back up to 2A after only one season in semi-pro football. This means at least one player in the squad has seen a team go back up to 2A.
There were over 10,000 fans in the stadium supporting the team in the sun on a Sunday morning.
