Set back
This wasn't the result we had hoped for although there were parts of the game where play was excellent. The team obviously still need time to gel and the defense needs work. Hopefully we will have a better result next week.

Season starts
This is the big day, the start of the 10/11 season. We are playing away in the Montilivi stadium against Girona. They have refurbished one of the stands in the grounds and it looks great.
The whole squad is there for the weekend as they travel on Sunday afternoon by train to Alicante for the King's cup game on Wendesday evening against Elche.
The club had upgraded their website and I am not sure it I like it The lettering seems smaller. I expect it will just take some time to get used to. You can check it out here.
The Peña (fan club) Peña Salamanca celebrated 50th anniversary this week. They have an exibition of memorabilia on display in the halls of the Parque García Sanabria, in Santa Cruz.
Ruben Rosquete will be going to play in Real Murcia this season on loan. It had been decided by trainer Arconada that he needs more minutes playing time that he would have here in CD Tenerife so he has been sent on loan.
The club have also given a professional contract to Josmar Zambrano. This is his first professional contract and was given after interest was expressed by FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC. The player wasn't taken to the second summer training this year and feeling among the fans was that the lad from Venezuela would be returned to the second team. In an interview on the 25/08 he stated that, "I hope to make the most of the chance I have been given and fight for a place in the first team. Although I am still a CD Tenerife B player I will be hoping for minutes in the first squad. I want to move forward little by little. It is my dream to play in the Heliodoro with the CD Tenerife shirt". Photo © tenerifedeportivo.com

Video from the game
The video is from the Zona Blanquiazul site. It is in Spanish, for those of you who don't speak it I am not sure who was more flattering about the team our trainer Arconada or Michael Laudrup the trainer from Majorca. He states that we had signed some good players and managed to keep most of last years squad and that if we continue the way we played in the first half we will go back to the first division for sure.

Presentation game results in a win
A good result for the team against Mallorca who were fifth in the first division last year. The 2-0 win with goals by new player Natalio and fans favourite Nino led the team to a victory. The first in the last five games. Pre-season is always full of ups and downs but the supporters left the stadium happy last night with a good feeling for the up coming league which starts away next Saturday in Montilivi, Girona. A stadium which will be in the hearts of many as the place where CD Tenerife went up to the first division two year ago.

Interview with Gonzalo Arconada after the Benidorm triangular competition
Gonzalo Arconada talked to the press after the triangular competition about the two games and the imediate future of the team.
“Against Benidorm we received two goals but we had moments when we controlled the game. Agaist Betis we were tired and you could see we have played 4 matches this week. They were fresher than us. These games are to try out players and concepts. Now we need to aim for the game against Mallorca and the upcoming league. There are points that need to be polished" he noted.
“Against Zaragoza and in the second half against Orihuela we saw a different team. In the rest of the games you can see the lads are tired. We have received lots of goals especially in the last three games. We need to work on this point”, he continued.
“We are trying out ideas and now we can evaluate them. We are going to concentrate on next Fridays game and then the game against Girona. Today we have tried different variations in attact to have more plans for the future”, he finished.

Melli is the new defender
Melli, the latest player for CD Tenerife arrived today in Compoamor to join Arconada's squad. He has signed for 3 years having been released by Real Betis yesterday
Melli is the new player in the CD Tenerife squad. The defender from Andalucia has signed for three season. Juan Alberto Andreu, Melli (6/6/1984, Barbate, Cádiz), has joined the blue and white group today in Campoamor. He was met by sports director, Santiago Llorente. He will pass the medicals and if every thing is right will then sign his contract.
The player comes from Real Betis. He has been a member of their squad since 2002 and was in the international youth squads. The defender talked to the press today and said he was pleased that the objective of the teams was to be at the top of the table and fight to go up to the first division. "I am now in a club where you can see how they competed the last two years. New players have arrived and we hope to be one of the teams who lead the way in the second division. Since I knew CD Tenerife was interested in me I was very clear I wanted to come. I am excited about the new season. This will be a new chance, but as I said from the moment I knew CD Tenerife were interested in me I was looking forward to being here" he finished.
Kome has renounced playing for the Cameroon national team. He says it is too much in the second division where there is no break and he would loose too many games with the club. Cameroon this week signed Javier Clemente this week. The Spanish trainer last trained Valladolid at the end of last season culminating in their going down from the first division to the second division.
The presentation game will be against Real Club Deportivo Mallorca on Friday the 20th of August at 9pm in the Heliodoro stadium. The team who were last years great surprise finished fifth and would have been eligible for the Europa league if financial difficulties hadn't stopped them taking part.
Ex-player who now play for Real Mallorca and might visit with the trainer Laudrup's team include Martí, Pau Cendrós & Ayoze Díaz.

We had to lose at some point
There had to be a game we lost in pre-season and the first game of the island seems as good a one as any. Against a team who were in the middle of the first division last year a 2-1 loss wasn't bad.

Pablo Sicila expected to recover quickly.
The health of Pablo Sicilia was a concern last Sunday after he was injured in the Teide Trofeo against Real Zaragoza. Both teams played well but part of the battle was the constant kicking that took place of both sides. For a friendly there was more then a fair share of violence. It didn't look good when Pablo was taken off after an injury an a tackle with Braulio. It would now seem after two days in which the players injuries have been looked at that it is not too bad. He is sure the injury "isn't too bad" and hopes today to "feel better." He folowed this by saying "The truth is I was in a lot of pain after the gameand the area still hurts although I am recovering. For a preseason game there were a lot of fouls. There was more kicking than usual and things were a little out of hand but it was us as well as the Zaragora players. Any way what counts is we played well andit seems we will all recover quickly form our injuries," he stated reminding that the team can feel lucky that none of the players are badly hurt. "I liked the way the team played against a team from a higher division for the whole 90 minutes,"he commented. "Of all the times I have played the Teide Trophy this was the game with the biggest audience" he stated. When asked about the fans he replied "It shows how much the team means to the island, it is special and the fans are enthuastic." I was actually on the touch line when he came off the field and although he was in pain he took the time to shke hands whith many fans. This is one of hte many reasons he is a very popular palyer with the fans. Pable finished by saying how pleased he was with his position in the group, "I am happy to have been chosen to play as it was a great game but the Mister(trainer) still has time to make changes."
Others injured during the game were Omar and Sergio Aragoneses who the team obviously thought had broken something as he had an emergency x-ray and a magnetic scan yesterday. Both were clean and he is recovering.
Pablo and Omar both went with the squad to Alicante so the medical team must think they will be fine soon.
The president has stated that he hopes to anounce the arrival of the second new central defender this week.

CD Tenerife won the Trofeo Teide, after winning against Real Zaragoza in the Los Cuartos stadium in la Orotava. Real Zaragoza, is a first division team and CD Tenerife managed to beat them 1-0. The goal by Nino came in the first few minutes of the game and proved enough for the team trained by Gonzalo Arconada to take the trophy.

After that both sides had chances to score but the result stayed the same. Real Zaragoza, looked better in the second half and in the 60th minute showed there form with two chances for a goal, the first in an individual play by Braulio and the second from a foul shot by Jeremy Pennant which was going to Jarosik but a CD Tenerife defender managed to intervene.

Interview with Santiago Llorente
Taken from an interview in the El Diá newspaper.
Santiago Llorente doesn't hide the pride he feels for the team he has managed to arrange this season. But prudence is always a good thing. He knows that is CD Tenerife doesn't manage to go up this season all his effort will have been for nothing. For this reason he makes clear where his responsibility ends. His loyalty to the players and the training team -as upto now- is total. But he rienids that once the league starts it is them who have to achive the goals and only if they work hard will he have achieved his aims. But his job is not yet finished this year and he is out there looking for two more players; a central defender and a forward. This way Arconada will have two players for each position. That will fulfill the objectives he and the club set in May. He has the players in mind but as always with Santiago he admits nothing. But his words seem to imply that there will be another reason for the fans to be excited this season.
"What feeling did the 0-4 win against Marino leave you with last Friday?"
"This was the first game and I think the team showed really positive signs. It seems to us that they have a great offensive line and will be able to do great things. If as well as that we can maintain order in all lines and play together I am sure the team will do great things. We still have a way to go but the work don't until now is good. The work is a team effort. It isn't just me. The trainer and the technical team are really involved as well. We all want to have the squad ready as soon as possible for the start of the season. ".
"Is this a better squad then last year?"
"No. I think they are different. Last years lads were good too. They didn't deserve the sorrow of going down.If you want me to compare then all I can say if they are different. The players have other styles and I hope they will bring us joy.But if we concentrate on the effort made to finish the team early then you have to agree we have done more this year. We work within the dynamics of the sport and the desires of the club. Every year we try to find the best ne plaayers we can and form a good squad as well as we are able within our budget. I want to restate last years team was good and they didn't deserve the result achieved at the end of the year. This years look good too and their skills show they have the possibility to go for the objectives we have laid out for them".
Listening to you talk it seems you have no worries about any player leaving this summer...
Not at all. I don't think this will happen.
