Agenda for the week 29 August - 4 September 2011
First away win
A second Monday in a row with my team at the top of the table. What more can any fan ask for. Game by game the team plan to work hard and achieve all our hopes. In a ground that CD Tenerife haven't lost a game, for 8 years, the players went out with the intention to fight hard and win.
And so it was, Richi Kitoko with his first game this season for the blue and whites scored after 8 minutes from an excelent pass by Ferran Tacon. Ferran had to wait until the second half to score himself. Add to the mix a goal from Perona with a shot at the far post and CD tenerife were leaders. this is too early in the season to matter but just for a moment they were there. Only in the closing minutes of the gane when the Canarians were tired did Sporting B look better. They fought back with a goal from Guerrero to bring the final score to 1-3.

All the players interviewed were happy but still cautious. Cristobal talked about how winning gave you the energy to go on to the next game. Perona said, "it was easier than we expected, we can score and we played well". David Medina stated, "We need to be careful. We are on the right path but still we should play from game to game". Jesus was not only pleased to have started for the team but also, "sure the more important thing was to win". Marcos Rodriguez, who seems to have the mid-field under control talked about the cup game on Wednesday pointing out, "The Cup is as important as the league".
Coach Calderon was also interviewed after the game. The trainer from Andalucia comented on the fact it hadn't been an easy game, "We worked hard and the players finished very tired. They are hungry to win but this is a long race and we need to remain calm.It helped us that we played in El Molinon but it helped Sporting B as well. Today we are going to celebrate this victory but tomorrow we need to concentrate on the cup".
The cup game is against Cerceda on Wednesday in Galicia at 19.30 Tenerife time.

Calderon wants to work with the players who are here now to achieve an away win.
I have that feeling in my Tummy that I get when the team play well. The one I haven't felt for a very long time. The one where you wake up on a Monday morning and the world has an extra shine and work is even inviting. Now it is Friday and we are gearing up for the game on Sunday away in Gijon. The time has been reset to Sunday afternoon 5pm BST as the squad are not returning Sunday night. The first round of the cup is on Wednesday and the team CD Tenerife are playing Cerceda are in Galicia so the plan is to stay the three days, train away and return to the islands after the cup match.
20 players are on the list for coach Calderon. Razak, Sergio Aragoneses, Sergio Rodríguez, Cristóbal, Ayoze, David Medina, Tarantino, Jesús, Jonay, Ferrán Tacón, Nico, Kitoko, Abel, Zazo, Marcos Rodríguez, Víctor Bravo, Germán, Rubén Rosquete, Kiko Ratón & Perona. Kitoko's papers have finally arrived so he is ready to play if the mister decides he is ready. They fly out tomorrow morning from the south direct to Asturias and will train Saturday afternoon at 5pm BST in La Marera where they were due to have played the game on Sunday. Finally they will play in El Molinon, Sporting's main grounds.
Players interviewed today included David Medina who said, “we are very ambitious and really want these three points. The win last Sunday gave us a boost. We need to keep wining as the league is still very much in play”. He continued, “ If we want to to make this count we need to play well, at home and away. The Molinon stadium is impressive. I have had the chance to play there and it is always good to play in bigger grounds. We know it will be difficult but the plan is to go out and every way we can play well and achieve a positive result”.
Coach Calderon in his weekly press interview commented about new players, “up to the 31st of August we can sign someone. Right now we need to concentrate on the game this Sunday. We are going to meet a rival whose players are strong. They are big lads and have played together for a long time. We also need to remember what can happen with a corner or a free kick” said the Andalusian.
“We will try to play the same CD Tenerife that as on the pitch last Sunday. We want to see a committed, organised team. We have respect for our rival but we are going out to win. Kitoko's papers are here so he is another option. I have been thinking hard about the game and as I said we need to focus on the players who are here right now. The need to pull us through”.

Josmar Zambrano excited to represent his nation.
Josmar Zambrano is a happy man. The CD Tenerife player was informed on Wednesday that he was needed for the national Venezuelan squad against Argentina. The player said that he “hadn't expected to be called up, it is a surprise”.
This all adds to his happiness this season: “I am very happy here in CD Tenerife. There is a good team and we are doing a great job. We hope things will go well, and I hope to be able to add and help the team so we have a good season both for me personally and for the tea,”.
The youth player commented that her is “Looking forward to the chance to play, I know I will need to work hard to get the chance from the coach. We are forming well as a group and the rivalry between us is healthy”, he explained.
When asked again about his going to represent Venezuela, Josmar Zambrano added that, “we all know how strong Argentina is with their great players. I am traveling there with a great desire to be able to take part and represent my country”.
The other footballer interviewed was Kitoko. The midfielder admitted that he was ready to play, “to debut the season. Lets see if it will be this Sunday. I feel well and am here for the coach”.
The blue and white player continued “there have been many changes in the squad, this looks like a good team and our objective is very clear. The league is long and anything might happen but we plan to play our best to make things difficult for the coach to choose who to play”.

Wednesday round up
Tenerife is still on the search for an extra forward. Although the club has been in contact with Alcoran Barrera, a local lad, Ponferradina insist they will not sell him.
Alcoran has no buyout clause in his contract and therefore unless the blue and white manager can convince Ponferradina to sell him the club will have to look elsewhere.
"I am happy here", said Alcoran yesterday. "I knew there would be offers this summer" speaking of the teams relegation, "But finally it is up to the club. They have no money troubles and therefore I guess I will be staying in Ponferrada".
The search continues and two names are being spoken right now; Ruben Navarro and Chechu Flores. There is also a rumor about a French passport holding Senegalese player but with no name it is difficult to know how real this is.
In an interview yesterday with Sporting player Ricardo Leon, he affirmed that he was "pleased to have forgiven the money I was owed". He said he had no regrets as for him it was, "a way to show that we all had a bad year and part of the blame was mine, that said it was nothing to do with me what others did". He also assured the media that his injury was improved and he was due to play soon.
Players interviewed today were Cristobal Juncal who reinforced the point of view that the team needs "to play game by game, but weare going all out to win in Gijon". And Terran Tacon who again commented on the fans in the stands last Sunday saying, "I was really happy to see so many fans. It is great to see them so committed to the colours".
Finally great news for Josmar Zambrano, he has been called up by the Venezuelan national squad to play in a friendly against Argentina.

I worked hard and managed to score a goal - Nico
Nico the author of the third goal was the player interviewed on Monday in the press room in the Mundialito grounds. The player stated that, “this was our first match in the Heliodoro and when it was my turn to play, I only had the thought to give everything. I worked hard and managed to score a goal and I am pleased with that. The people were outstanding. There were many fans in the stands and we are really pleased to see them there”.
The forward from Murcia hopes “to keep making the fans happy. The 2B division understands nothing about favourites. We won our first game and need to keep going. We will need to win many more to reach our objectives. The season is long and we need to keep out feet on the floor”.
Nico added that, “ We can't stop working ever. We must move from game to game. We are very conscious of the work we have been doing and there are no doubts. This can be seen with the confidence we played with on Sunday”.
Tarantino spoke second and recognised that the group, “feels better every day. Personally I feel I can give more, but we have just started and, started well. I am left with he game we played against Vecindario and I hope we can only improve”.
The blue and white footballer advised that, “you still can't make great judgements as we are still evolving and there needs to pass time until we are an established team”.

3-0 win against Vecindario
This was the game every fan wants to start the season. A 3-0 clear win, with goals from three different players. After the trials of last year this was a fresh start. The sun shone, the team had managed to organise an afternoon game and as the players came out onto the field there was a feeling that something special was going to happen.
In the first half Vecindario defended well, not letting Tenerife reach the goal. But after the break the black and green team seemed to relax and two goals in six minutes were the result. Victor Bravo was the first goal scorer with a pass from Perona. The ex Oviedo player then shot the second goal giving the team a bread advantage. The third goal came 30 minutes later with a pass by Ferran Tacon to Nico who has not long been substituted onto the field.. The players celebrated each goal together and seemed content as a group. Vecindario played well but they weren't at CD Tenerife's level.
Coach Calderon stated after the game that “although the game was hard the players controlled the ball”, he rated the game as good but more than that he commented he was pleased how the squad were with each other.
The players interviewed after the game were Victor Bravo and Abel. Victor was please the crown had enjoyed the game and hoped that he “scored more goals”. Abel who played fro the fist time in the Heliodoro said “This was a good result for a game that is like a derby”.
The team is training today Monday, and is off tomorrow. CD Tenerife are third in the table with La Roda and Lugo ahead of them on goal difference.

Meji calls to the fans to help tomorrow
Meiji is one of the most experienced players in the current CD Tenerife team. The young man talked today in the press room in the El Mundialito training ground about what he sees the season will bring.
Meji began by explaining that "we are at an optimal time to successfully start the first league match. We are eager to start the season well, but we must face every game calmly. It will be important to do well and achieve good results every time we go out on the grass. We will have to work hard to achieve the three points. "
The defender does not hesitate to acknowledge that "I have really wanted and looked forward to trt of the sthis season. One of the goals is that the fans support the team. "
Meji is convinced that sooner or later the work the squad has achieved throughout the summer will show: "The group has progressed a lot in these weeks of the pre-season. This was ideal to make all the pieces fit. "
Another man who spent this Saturday in the pressroom was Ezequiel Luna, who spoke about his future: "I do not know anything, but my head right now is in the CD Tenerife. The intention I had was to continue here and now comes the possibility of changing to another club. "
"This has caught me by surprise, but football has a way of throwing things at you. There seems to be interest from a segunda team. The club always treated me well and everyone knows that I am happy and very comfortable on the island but there is no denying that one hopes to grow. I've said we should wait and see. That clubs look at you is very important for any professional, "he added.
Saturday morning e was the last training session for the week, before the team started the league. Antonio Calderon's men exercised in the Mundialito for about 80 minutes. The practice began at 10.00 hours.
There were warm-up exercises with the ball, tactical movements and football matches in smaller spaces. Outside the group were, Pablo Sicilia and Omar Ramos. All other players are available for this Sunday, in the Heliodoro.

The team are going all out on Sunday, said Marcos Rodriguez
Marcos Rodríguez is in full process of adapting to CD Tenerife. The midfielder from Galicia is on of the last players to arrive on the island, he needs to acclimatise before the imminent start to the league. The footballer talked on Monday about this in the press room in the Mundialito grounds, speaking about the time he has spend so far on Tenerife.
He started by explaining, “I have started to play minutes in the two games against Las Palmas and generally I feel I am adapting well. Little by little I understand how the coach wants me to play. This is the way a player needs to act to have chances to play. The plan is to be as ready as possible for the game against Vecindario on Sunday”.
When asked about the game last weekend against UD Las Palmas, Rodríguez commented that “the team showed what they can do. We need to move step by step as there are many new players and we need to come together. There is still time to improve and come together. We will move up together”.
When asked about their preparations which were coming to an end he said “Pre season is to try things, to see how the players interact. Everyone wants to win, but right now this was a time for other aims. We will carry on working with intensity and next weekend we will will go all out to win, for the first three points of the season. From now we need to charge our batteries as this will be a complicated season”.
“We want to start the league well, although we are conscious that there will be difficulties this Sunday”, he added.

Interview with coach Calderon aftr the Real Madrid Castilla game
Antonio Calderón was interviewed as always after the game against Real Madrid Castilla. Firstly the CD Tenerife trainer commented that, “I am satisfied, the team once more have shown that they are agressive, organised brave and intense. Remembering that they are a new team, we have taken a step forward against a rival at the highest level who kept their trainer and main block of players from last year”.
He continued on this theme saying, “The sending offs were a pity as they affected the game. We had their attacks under control and were frequently in their area but the final result was a zero zero draw. We are happy with the way they worked”.
The man in charge of the CD Tenerife team continued "you can see that the team are assimilating offensive and defensive concepts. We are still missing speed and that spark but everything will come in time. We didn't have so many shots at goal but generally it was a serious game between two strong teams”.

Meji talks about his hopes for the Trofeo Teide and the league

Calderon talks after loss against CD Marino
Antonio Calderón was interviewed after the game against CD Marino. The CD Tenerife coach commented on the team, “They worked well. There are things that need to be improved and because of this we have the loss but we controlled our rival and they did a good job. We tried various things. Physically they are in good condition and there technical tactics are improving”.
The trainer from Cadiz talked about the match, “They scored from a still ball. We didn't defend the corner well and they scored. The 1-0 could have been avoided. That said the team fought hard, looked for the equaliser, achieved this and I feel a second goal would have been fair but it wasn't to be”.
On this vein Calderon continued. “I can see that the team wants to win, they tried to dominate the rival, they were brave, daring and we need to insist on this. Now we need to correct our errors but we had chances to score. Now we need to correct the mistakes, but we have had clear chances to score and importantly that those chances were generated“.
Concerning the performance of Álvaro Zazo and David Medina, the coach from Andalusia pointed out that “they are players who have arrived later. In a new team we need to integrate them as soon as possible. The minutes that they played were good for them and for the team”.
Lastly he was asked about the signings that are not finalised, Antonio Calderon admitted that “We are missing a minimum of three players still. They are working on this and these games are good to know exactly what positions we need to sign players for. We have this mostly clear and we hope to find what we are missing for the team”, he finished.
On the positive side Melli has left the team, he hasn't signed for anyone else but has terminated his contract with the club.

Pedro Cordero at the presentation of David Medina
Pedro Cordero was there today for the presentation of new player David Medina who joined the team last week. After the medical he rushed to La Palma to take part in the team concentration there. He was presented in the Heliodoro press room today.
David talked about his decision to play for CD Tenerife and how although he had offers for other teams in the higher division and abroad finally he decided to come to Tenerife saying: “I am excited to be here and await the start of the season. It wasn't an easy decision as I had other offers but finally the interest CD Tenerife showed was what made me come here. It is also a big club with a great history and I am happy to play here”.
After the presentation Pedro Cordero was asked some questions and when asked about David Medina said “ he is an experienced player at this level and is convinced by the project we are preparing”. He continued, “it was not easy to persuade him to come as he had other offers but I am sure he will contribute balance and experience to the team”.
The sports director from Murcia then covered the most recent CD Tenerife news saying that,”Some of the players who are in the ERE might end up playing for us. The squad is not complete but we are now all rowing in the same direction so we can solve this problem”.
Cordero, also made reference to local Omar Ramos saying that “he is a player who is important for CD Tenerife and he may well be important on our path out of 2B”.
CD Tenerife, since they have returned from Barlovento, are not complete as a squad for 11/12 Cordero himself said, “some other players may arrive to reinforce the mid-field but we also have chances with the youth teams. Ayoze & Abel are playing well and we are all pleased with them”.
When asked about Zazo the most recent signing, who has still to pass his medical. Pedro Cordero said, “Zazo can play high balls very well and his is good in midfield”.
Finally he commented that the management were happy with the work realised till now and “we will try from the beginning to be at the top of the table in the league”
Don't forget that the next friendly game is in the south against CD Marino in the Los Cristianos stadium at 8.30pm on Wednesday.
