Wednesday round up

Tenerife is still on the search for an extra forward. Although the club has been in contact with Alcoran Barrera, a local lad, Ponferradina insist they will not sell him.

Alcoran has no buyout clause in his contract and therefore unless the blue and white manager can convince Ponferradina to sell him the club will have to look elsewhere.
"I am happy here", said Alcoran yesterday. "I knew there would be offers this summer" speaking of the teams relegation, "But finally it is up to the club. They have no money troubles and therefore I guess I will be staying in Ponferrada".
The search continues and two names are being spoken right now; Ruben Navarro and Chechu Flores. There is also a rumor about a French passport holding Senegalese player but with no name it is difficult to know how real this is.
In an interview yesterday with Sporting player Ricardo Leon, he affirmed that he was "pleased to have forgiven the money I was owed". He said he had no regrets as for him it was, "a way to show that we all had a bad year and part of the blame was mine, that said it was nothing to do with me what others did". He also assured the media that his injury was improved and he was due to play soon.
Players interviewed today were Cristobal Juncal who reinforced the point of view that the team needs "to play game by game, but weare going all out to win in Gijon". And Terran Tacon who again commented on the fans in the stands last Sunday saying, "I was really happy to see so many fans. It is great to see them so committed to the colours".
Finally great news for Josmar Zambrano, he has been called up by the Venezuelan national squad to play in a friendly against Argentina.

"We need to finish as high as we can" said Ricardo Leon

Ricardo León & Mikel Alonso were the two players who were interviewed in Ciudad Deportiva Geneto-Los Baldíos. The mid-fielders for the blue and white team both think the classification position the team finds itself in conditions their game against Granada this weekend.
For Ricardo “it is clear the the end of the league for us is difficult and we want to finish the best we can. There are still possibly chances. The group feels bad, hurt. The season has been hellish, both personally and generally”.
“Before playing at home in the Heliodoro it was a fortress. This year at home we have had no consistency. After going up and the year in La Liga, living through this situation hurts. And this has been my home for a long time”, explained the local player.
“Right now everyone of us needs to give their best. There is nothing to lose. We need to give everything, to forget the pressure and play football. If play how we should, we could show Granada a thing or two” he concluded.
Mikel Alonso answered “I am working hard to play this week”, when he was asked about his chances to start in Los Cármenes because of the player who can't play in midfield.
For the Basque player, “We need to change the run. We want to do this but we need to play well and against a strong rival like Granada its hard. We need to concentrate on the game, on the best of our play”.
“We need to win all the points we can. We have an obligation and need to try our best. This is an important game. The calculations are as they are. We can all add up and it is normal that you do this but we need to think about how to play” he finished.

Ricardo Leon, hopes the fans keep the faith.

CD Tenerife visit Santo Domingo this Sunday, where they meet Alcorcón. For Ricardo León, the match this weekend is the right one to add the three points that would reactivate the team. The local player hopes to bring home some happiness for the fans.
“We need this win like we need to eat. We must get these three points. We are going all out for a win and are sure we have chances” explained Ricardo. “We feel capable. We know that we are in a very complicated situation but under no circumstances will we throw in the towel”, he added.
When asked about the arrival of the new local trainer the midfielder from the north of the island said that “David Amaral is a very demanding trainer. We are working very hard and we need to continue like this to be able to compete in the same way”.
When asked about AD Alcorcon, the next rival, Ricardo León explained, “in their grounds they are tough. I am sure we will be under a lot of pressure and we will need to move the ball quickly and accurately. We are very aware of all that is going on. The most important thing right now is to win”.
“The fans have helped us all season, in spite if the bad results. We hope they keep the faith, as they have to now, We are going to give everything every game to try to get out of this difficult situation”, he concluded.

Marc and Ricardo talk about the last chance for the team.

Marc Bertrán & Ricardo León attended the press today. The first to speak was the defender from Catalonia. “Our objective is the game against Huesca. We can't think of anything else. We know we need the three points. If we do we move towards our objective and everything will seem easier”.
“Here inside the squad we are convinced we can do this. We are going all out and fight to the end. I am here with the team training every day and I see what we can do”, added Bertran.
The blue and white captain also admitted that, “It hasn't been an easy season and everyone needs to provide more. We have our responsibilities and need to do many things well for a club as big as this one. We need to start again to lift things up”.
Lastly and in reference to the incidents on Sunday when the team arrived back at the stadium, Marc Bertrán pointed out that “this was no good for anyone. It was a performance that in no way represents the great values the fans have here in Tenerife. I hope that this doesn't happen again”.
Ricardo León, started with the thought you should turn the page. That this is a new week and you need to move onto the next game. “We need to keep concentrated and pay no attention to what is being said and concentrate on the next game”.
When asked about the reception the team had last Sunday the local player said, “It was unpleasant and hard. This is what happens when the club is bad. We haven’t been able to make the fans happy and we are responsible for the bad season. What we need to do is win once and for all and then look forward” he added.
Ricardo, on the same theme wouldn't throw in the towel. “This team has chances. The fans will support us there at the lions mouth. I am very hopeful we will manage to stay in this division. A win this Saturday is fundamental. I don't care how we do this. Achieving the three points will give us the will to go on” he concluded.

Interviews after the game against Elche and on the way home.

In the interviews after the game with 11 games left to play for the end of the competition the CD Tenerife squad has right now the Nastic game and winning there in their mind so they can cut the difference to get out of the relegation zone. “We are going to play the next game like it was the last”, assured Julio Álvarez. In the same terms Ricardo León commented: “We are talking about a really important moment”.
The undeserved loss against Elche (1-0) on Sunday needs to be left behind. The squad will concentrate, from now, all their effort on winning the next three games in play. Points that are vital for the aim to save the team. “right now we are in a bad state of mind” admitted Julio Alvarez, “and we need to play against Nastic like it was the last game on earth”. We need to concentrate on this game and think no further” the midfielder added.
His companion Ricardo León talked much the same way. “Nastic is a direct rival” he reminded, 2and we are talking about a vital game”. “We can't think about a loss but how we are going to win”, he emphasised. “The mentality has to be in how to win the three points”, he underlined.
Still, he couldn't not make a reference to the game against Elche in the Martínez Valero: “It is true that we received a goal in the start of the match, although we had chance to score”. He also noted that “The second half was completely ours” and finished saying that “This is where we are and we need to keep battling on”.
Ricardo & Julio Álvarez both preferred not to comment on the crossed words between them at the end of the last game. “I don't want to comment as in moments of stress things happen after games” said the local player.
“It was just a moment of tension between two players” he explained “and of course no one hit any one”. “If there have been statements as such then they were confused, very confused” he stated.
Julio Álvarez also commented, “It was a discussion like many other in the season” he described. “And if someone said we fought then that is blown out of contention”. “This damages everyone, above all the team when things are so uneasy right now”. He admitted that there was a discussion but, “it needed to stay within the players and nothing more”.
As well he said that ”We are hurt by the situation the team finds itself, It hurts to hear things about the team but more so when they are not true”.
We didn't start very well and make the most of our chances which we clear. The mistakes in the first half are not normal and hurt more so. The position we find ourselves in cause this. We deserved more”. This is how Antonio Tapia started his press conference on Sunday in the Martínez Valero, after the team lost against Elche CF. The chief coach had no excuses for the team and said, “In the first half Elche came out very strongly. Slowly we improved and in the second half we dominated and had chance but we didn't score”.
“After a loss and looking at the table everything looks black. There are still points in play. We need to work and look to win” said the trainer from Andalusia. He continued “in situations like this we need to take responsibility and I have no problem to do that”.
“we played like a team in the bottom half and were imprecise and nervous. Then as we felt surer we improved. We deserved to win”, he added. “I came to Tenerife to work hard and won't throw in the towel” was how he concluded.
Other players commented after the game:
Luna: “Again we lost and need to cry. We are cross after this game and the situation we are in right now. We don't need to talk, just show how we can play. This year football has been unfair with us. Things don't work out and even if we try they seem to go wrong. We cant get back even when the team plays hard. We need to think about the next game and how to win”.
Nino: “In Elche I played eight years of my career. Here we really suffered. Some of the mistakes were ours but sometimes the keeper played well. Our rival scored the first shot at goal. It is much the same as other games. If the game today was a final the one against Nastic is more so. We all want to sort this out for the team. We are here for the good times and the bad ones and we can't afford to give anything away”.
Sergio Aragoneses: “This the the same story. We need to react now. There is nothing but to win nearly all the games that are left. We need to be brave, but this could go wrong. We are part of the squad and we need to be united to solve this. It seems that we till we react things are the same. Every game left is a final. We have no place left for mistakes”.

Call for help from the club

Taken from the club website:

The Liga Adelante competition 2010/11 is moving into the last stretch with everything still to be decided. The bad results that have occurred for CD Tenerife in the last few rounds, leave the club with the need to add points to save their position in the league. What is more with the arrival of Antonio Tapia the team proved themselves capable of moving up the table. Now is the moment to move forward together with more faith than before and to help the team move back up the table.
CD Tenerife finished the first half of the league with 16 points in 22nd position. Their position in the table was in the relegation zone with points to reach salvation. It was urgent that they were able to cut the difference between this position and the 18th which was Las Palmas. With the arrival of Antonio Tapia the team proved they could react. 2 days after the arrival of the new coach the club won their first point (Tenerife, 2; Granada, 2).
Since then the fans thought that the club could maintain their position in the Liga Adelante. In Girona the team added another point with 10 men against Girona (3-3). A week later the team again with 10 men won against Salamanca in the second win away from home this season (1-2).
By then had arrived on the island three new players: Sebastián Dubarbier, Ritchie Kitoko e Igor de Souza. The fans were excited the following weekend when the team managed to win against Rayo Vallecano, who were at that point leaders (2-1).
Antonio Tapia's team at that point had six rounds without a loss. Then in Vigo the team lost in the last minutes (1-0). With this loss the team were sure they would come back and this they did with the win at home against Xerez (2-1). So at that moment the team were eight games in which they had gained points in seven with three victories and four draws.
Then with the team finally outside the relegation positions the tide turned. Right now the team has 12 games to play and is six points away from the team in 18th position.
Right now is the moment that, all together, we need to start again. Antonio Tapia made clear in the interview after the game against Cordoba on Saturday. “We need to fight to the end” he proclaimed. “The fans don't deserve that the team gives up” insisted the coach. In the form the members of the team have proclaimed the same comments. “The solution is to fight to the end” underlined Ricardo Leon, who then added that “we all know of teams who have been written off six or seven games before the end who then saved themselves”.
Along the same line Ezequiel Luna stated: “Talking means nothing, the only thing that counts is to give everything in every game”. He also assured that “the squad have the strength to manage this”. Dani Kome referred to the things that need to be done before the end of the league. “In this house we are not losers” he assured the press. He then continued “the fans in spite of the way we have played up to now, still support us and we need to go on working so we can make all these people happy”.
There are five more games in the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium (Huesca, Villarreal B, Recreativo Hueva, Valladolid y Ponferradina) and seven away (Elche, Nástic de Tarragona, Alcorcón, Granada, Betis, Albacete y Las Palmas). These are all finals, 36 points in play and one single objective: achieve the points to stay in the second division. Together, without differences, this is the moment to start again so we can play next year again in the Liga Adelante. We can achieve this.

Julio Alvarez hopes things are on the way up

“The group is more important than the individual. We can see this when we have the ball”, is how Julio Alvarez started his press conference referring to Sunday's game. “We are recovering our confidence but we need to read the games better. All the players are committed to this improvement and we hope this will show soon in results. We want to finish the season really well” the player continued. He was impressed by the reaction of the team on Sunday saying “The reaction against Girona was phenomenal, you saw that the team had spirit. That said after the 1-0 we should have gone all out playing the ball as we had been”.
In reference to himself recently the “20” saw that “I have certain characteristics as a player. Against Granada I felt much more comfortable and maybe in that position I will be more able to help the team”.
Álvarez, in the same theme, wanted to send a message to the fans, “I am grateful to the fans, I understand why they were unhappy. I know what I need to do to help the team and I am going to continue doing it. The supporters are ten out of ten in my book”.
Lastly the island player talked about the next game in the Helmántico. “I am only worried to see if we can manage the game for the 90 minutes. We are missing the assurance which allows you to win games. We know what we will find in Salamanca and I reiterate we need to know how to play this game”.
Ricardo León, for his part, started with the comment, “We need to look at the positive side. The team has made a change and all we need now is that step to positive results. We need to keep the ball in our possession. We know we are capable of taking the initiative in a game”.
About the next game the blue and white mid-fielder confirmed that “Salamanca will want to please their fans and we need to react and add points three by three. We will need to play well in the Helmántico to overcome our next rival”.
Lastly, Ricardo talked about the situation the team finds themselves, “If we had all been at this level since the beginning, we wouldn't be where we are now. I am trying to play my best every round and add as much as I can to the game, but sometimes things don't work out as one hopes. We need to function as a group and this way things will improve”, he finished.

The players talk positively about the game against Granada

Nino & Ricardo León were the players who talked to the press in Tuesday after training finished.

The forward from Almeria was first, he commented on CD Tenerife as it stands today, “Now we are prepared for the game this Wednesday, which is the most important thing. The reality is that, we need to live with this and move the situation forward however we can”. He continued on this line stating “The team wants to compete and we have a good chance against Granada. There is an important game waiting for us in the Heliodoro. We need to give everything”. Nino, also, showed his confidence in the squad. “I can't explain the present situation and there is nothing to do but work and play the best e can. The team needs to let go some of the stress. Here we are all good players and we can achieve more. We need to work a lot, compete at our best and start winning again. In good time and bad ones the players are the protagonists”, he added. “We need to break the negative streak”, The CD Tenerife forward went on, “because we have one objective and nothing can be allowed to distract us”he reminded the media. To conclude, Nino confessed that, in spite if the situation which the team finds itself “I have never regretted what Tenerife has given me. Exactly the opposite, I will always be grateful to the club”. Ricardo León, for himself, started by valuing the importance of the game against Granada. “We need the three points this Wednesday as they are again very important. If we win we can look at the future in another way. They are three points that can bring us towards our objective. We have a new chance, and a big one1in our own grounds”. And the Canarian midfielder , “We need to lift up our heads and win some games. We are all very vexed. Here are good quality players. The squad is capable of getting out of this situation”, he ended. Juanlu Hens was the player interviewed on Tuesday afternoon. The CDT midfielder talked about the experience of the players in the recent happenings; the draw in the derby, Mandia's leaving and the arrival of Tapia. “We are in a complicated situation and decisions were taken which we need to abide by”, explained Juanlu. In relation to the sacking of Mandia, “The game against relation to the sacking of Mandia Granada is vital. The players need to take the blame for much of what has happened and we need to tighten up our game to get out of where we are. This is something we have said before, but more than ever we need to keep these three points”, he said about Wednesday's game. About the new coach, The player from Cordoba said “Antonio Tapia is a hard working trainer, well prepared and knows the second division perfectly. I hope that with his help and out effort, we will achieve results. We are working to assimilate his ideas as quickly as possible”. Juanlu also commented on the return of Toño Hernández to the technical team “he knows the squad, he is loyal to the club and surely he will liaise between the coach and everyone else”. The Andalucian midfielder understands to ascend “clear your mind, work as hard as you can and put in the effort. We all want to work and help. What is important is the group and winning this next game on Wednesday”.

In advance of Sunday's game

Ricardo León, who on Sunday could play his 150th league game for the blue and white colours of C D Tenerife, was the player who was interviewed in the press room of the El Mundialito. The midfielder talked about the crisis of results that the team are living with and the need to reactivate the team as soon as possible.
That said, the local player was asked to start with about the state of his health as he has been having problems with his ankle due to a bash he had received last Sunday. “It is curing well and I hope to be able to train with the rest of the squad soon”, said Ricardo.
The northerner talked about the bad moment that the players of CD Tenerife are suffering: “All of the games left are important. We have to do as much as we can to win as many games as possible. There is a hard stretch but we are going to make this work. It really hurts the way we are right now. We are going to give everything to get there. We need to go game by game. If in Ponferrada we are capable of winning, things will look different. I know the group is capable of recovery. The group works well all week but we get to the game and things don't go well”.
“we all need to give more and I am the first down this path. We are to the death with this trainer. There is nothing we could blame him for. The team makes mistakes, it is the players fault”, he added.
When asked about this weekend, Ricardo commented that “Ponferradina is strong at home. They are going to push hard. But we have chances to win”.
Josmar Zambrano was also interviewed on Wednesday in the press room. The young forward spoke after his return from Venezuela: “I am glad to be back here and I hope to be able to help the team, to make the most of the chances that the coach gives me. I know that I need to work really hard. I always train hard, waiting the chances that might happen to add my grain of sand”.
When asked about the bad moment the first team is having, Zambrano told that “the situation is complicated, but here there is a good group, a great team and we are going to rise above the bottom of the table. Lets see if we can earn the three points this Sunday”.

CD Tenerife has only played once against SD Ponferradina in the community of Leon. This was on the 2nd of December in 2006 and the game finished 1-0. The consequence of that result was the then trainer Bernt Krauss being sacked as coach of the blue and white team.
The visiting team were made up of the following players: Marc Bertrán, Culebras, Manuel (Pablo Sicilia, 58’), Clavero; San Martín, Oscar Pérez, Sergio Torres (Juan Ramón, 58’), Ayoze; Cristo (Ángel, 65’) & Frankowski. The 1-0 was scored by Fran, with a straight shot, in the first time (minute 38).
It was a sad day for the island players as Manuel Castiñeiras father died as a consequence of a heart attack that he suffered in the stand during the game.

Ricardo Leon - 150 league games

The game in El Toralín is presumed that it will be the moment that Ricardo León will have played 150 league games with the blue and white shirt of CD Tenerife. If trainer, Juan Carlos Mandía, decides that he will play and he manages to overcome his injuries the midfielder from the north will be the second highest player at the moment only beaten by keeper Sergio Aragoneses.
He is a player who came through the ranks of the junior teams with CD Tenerife, where he arrived from UD Orotava in 2003. it cost him effort and time to make a space in the professional side but since he started on the 28th of January 2006, he has converted into a important key player for every trainer who has passed through the club. One game after another, Ricardo León has won the hearts and minds of his homeland club. He is happy here and even had a chance last season to play in the maximum league in Spain's football, La Liga.
Against Huesca, (0-0), in El Alcoraz, in the present season he played 150 official games with the club as a blue and white player and now in his next game, Ricardo will reach the same number of official games in the league. The midfielder is the player with the second highest number of games played for the island club only higher than him is the goal keeper Sergio Aragoneses.
But this celebration which could happen in El Toralín, if trainer Juan Carlos Mandía decides that he should play, comes at a particularly bad time for the island club. A bittersweet moment. An unjust loss against Albacete Balompié (0-1) Placed the team once more in the last position in the Liga Adelante. The team does have one game in hand which it will play on the 26th of January in the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium, against Granada CF.
Ricardo León, together with the rest of his companions, needs to face one of the most important trials of his career. The next game is against SD Ponferradina. The blue and white players have very clear that they need to double and redouble their efforts to start the climb up the classification table, to reach safety in the centre of the table.

Ricardo Leon talks.

Ricardo León attended the press today and discussed how the best thing was to turn the page over and think only in the game against Real Betis “The game on Sunday was a clear loss. In no way did we expect this result but now we have to move forward. There is no other choice. Right now every day is hard but we need to keep busy”.
His comments about Saturday's game against the team with the most points in the Liga Adelante, were, “we are expecting a complicated game and we need to do our best. The plans we had were good and now, surprisingly, we lost again and it seems like the world has ended. It was a stumble but we need to move forward”.
In reference to the state of the team, Ricardo claimed that “the situation is bad, we can't deny that. We need to fight hard to get out of the zone at the bottom of the table. We are going to try to do everything right against Real Betis. We need to think about this game and nothing else. We need to combine our forces and with the help of our fans win these three points”
The CD Tenerife midfielder, said of Betis that “they are king of the category and we need to be motivated for their visit. But above all we need to be motivated to move out of the position we are in for good, finally for good”.
Lastly, Ricardo León, who has now completed his punishment, is hoping to play from the start of the coming match. “It has been very long all this time without playing, for the yellow cards and then the postponement of the Granada game. If on Saturday I have the chance, I will try to help the team all I can”, he concluded.

In reference to the inability of Natalio y Ricardo to play, the head coach for CD Tenerife pointed out that “We only think about those player who can play. Of course it is an added difficulty when there are players who are being punished for accumulation of yellow cards or with physical difficulties but as I said from the work they have done this week I can see they really want to get ahead”.
