David Amaral talks before the game against Ponferradina

David Amaral was the person interviewed on Friday after training, he started by commenting on the journey the team had made since he took over the blue and white bench. “Away from home CD Tenerife has played well. Here at home in exchange, it has been very hard more than anything during the first two games. After that we were capable of beating Recreativo and Valladolid. Then there was the win against Albacete”.
The coach from Arico then continued, “The situation hasn't been easy but we needed to find the motivation to compete. It is better to finish as well as we can and we will go on trying. We need to study well what happened here so it doesn't happen again”.
He was asked about eh next match against SD Ponferradina, “since the beginning SD Ponferradina was looking not to end up in relegation, they are an organised team and have some quality players. They still found it hard to move off the bottom of the table. What you will see are two teams who have been relegated”.
The head CD Tenerife coach was also questioned about the possibility of some of the players being changed so they could be cheered by the fans. “If the game has no risks, there are always possibilities”.
Lastly, David Amaral referred to the next match again saying, “Lets see if we can win a third game in a row. It is important that the squad show how they can play and that we finish as high up the table as e can. We will keep competing, training hard and for this I have to thank the players”.

Before the last away game in the first half

CD Tenerife plays this Sunday the last away game of the first half of the league against Ponferrada. There are three home games to be played before the cycle is completed. The group under Juan Carlos Mandía journey to León today Saturday and they are prepared for everything. The finished their weekly training today Saturday with an hour and a half session the the HRL with closed doors.
After the session Mandía offered the list of 18 player who will travel to Ponferrada: Luis García, Marc Bertrán, Carlos Bellvís, Antonio Hidalgo, Pablo Sicilia, Nino, Ricardo, Omar, Sergio Aragoneses, Natalio, Dani Kome, David Prieto, Juanlu Hens, Melli, Julio Álvarez, Mikel Alonso, Iriome &Josmar Zambrano.
Players Beranger & Aitor Núñez, we left out for technical decisions. Josmar Zambrano occupies the position left vacant by defender Ezequiel Luna.

This Saturday in the press room of the Heliodoro the two players who were interviewed were Sergio Aragoneses & Mikel Alonso. Two of the most experienced players in CD Tenerife. Both the Galician and the Basque player were agreed in the importance of the game on Sunday in Ponferrada.
“There is no option but to gain points three by three. We are going to Ponferrada and our only thought is to win. What has happened up to now has to be left behind. We need to think positively”, started the keeper.
“There is dedication and we are prepared to sacrifice but perhaps we are missing other things. We have tried everything in every game but for what ever reason we haven’t managed many victories. The team need to work as a group. We all need to defend and all need to attack”, he added as he was asked what had led the CD Tenerife to the situation they find themselves.
“We hope that in the next few weeks that we will be a turning point in CD Tenerife for this season”, he commented, sending a message to the fans. When asked about the arrival of Sebastián Dubarbier, the first winter signing, Aragoneses stated that “new people bring air fresh air and this is positive”.

For his self, Mikel Alonso started by stating that this Sunday, “is important. Right now we need the points. As well we play a direct rival. It is an urgent game and because of this the result is consuming. We can't continue at the the bottom of the table sunk there”.
When questioned about the bad position in the the classification table and whether the team preferred to play at home in the Heliodoro or away, the midfielder noted that, “Right now it is all the same at home or away because all the points added to the total count the same. Every point is gold. This is what we have been saying the whole league, but week by week our necessity is greater. A victory would be very important. But if I had to choose where to play it would always be in our stadium.”.
Alonso thanked the fans for the warm support the players had received in spite of the situation they team found themselves in the last few months, “The fans have always been at the teams side. Looking at where we are the stadium has been very busy. It is normal that there have been criticisms”.
About Ponferradina he said that “they haven't many points and are in a difficult position. They fight, their game is direct and at home they push hard. They have their own weapons. But if we know how to move the ball we will have our chances”.
“Tenerife is the most important. The rivals game is less important. The group needs to move the situation forward, look that things go right for us. I see the team well, there are no ugly faces, we want to work and are anxious that the weekend game will be here” he concluded.

IRIOME GONZALEZ GONZALEZ - Will he reach 100 games this weekend.

He came on the field in a storm to play for CD Tenerife in the winter of 2007. Up to the end of the 06/07 season, Iriome González was a fixed player in the first eleven of the blue and white team. He played 20 games and all them starting on the field making his first goals in glory. He scored two goals in the home derby match against UD Las Palmas in a game that finished 3-1. A few seasons later the young player has in his hand the chance to reach 100 games in the Spanish second division. This may be this weekend, in El Toralín, against SD Ponferradina.


At only 23 years old, Iriome González is about to reach 100 games in the Liga Adelante in Spanish football. The player who is multiuse was trained in the CD Tenerife junior teams played his first official game for the first team on the 14th of January 2007. The young man from the north of the island started the game on the field and played well, helping the team to a 0-0 draw. That season 06/07, he was the star of the category with offers from well known European teams. Although he didn't start to play until January he played 20 games in the season. He also scored 4 goals in that time two of them in the home Derby which helped the team to a 3-1 win in the Heliodoro Rodríguez López.
The following year he was more noticed, and played 31 games in the league. And scored four more goals against Xerez, Córdoba, Castellón & Numancia. In the next season 08/09 the year C D Tenerife ascended to the first division he played less with only 12 games. Then last year he was ceded to SD Huesca. In the Aragon region he accumulated he totalled more games in the silver level with 26 games played and another goal with Las Palmas as opposition.
At the end of the season Iriome returned to the island and as the season goes on his continues to add minutes to his total. Against Albacete he played his 99th game at this level. Only one week before in Valladolid with a strong header he helped the team to a 2-2 draw. If he in El Toralin he gets the chance to jump on the grass this will be his first century with 100 games in the Liga Adelante (74 with CD Tenerife and 26 with SD Huesca). More than anything the local player wants to celebrate this achievement with a positive result. A result that would permit the CDT players to start to scale the table and once and for all take the club out of the relegation positions they have found themselves in for so long.

In advance of Sunday's game

Ricardo León, who on Sunday could play his 150th league game for the blue and white colours of C D Tenerife, was the player who was interviewed in the press room of the El Mundialito. The midfielder talked about the crisis of results that the team are living with and the need to reactivate the team as soon as possible.
That said, the local player was asked to start with about the state of his health as he has been having problems with his ankle due to a bash he had received last Sunday. “It is curing well and I hope to be able to train with the rest of the squad soon”, said Ricardo.
The northerner talked about the bad moment that the players of CD Tenerife are suffering: “All of the games left are important. We have to do as much as we can to win as many games as possible. There is a hard stretch but we are going to make this work. It really hurts the way we are right now. We are going to give everything to get there. We need to go game by game. If in Ponferrada we are capable of winning, things will look different. I know the group is capable of recovery. The group works well all week but we get to the game and things don't go well”.
“we all need to give more and I am the first down this path. We are to the death with this trainer. There is nothing we could blame him for. The team makes mistakes, it is the players fault”, he added.
When asked about this weekend, Ricardo commented that “Ponferradina is strong at home. They are going to push hard. But we have chances to win”.
Josmar Zambrano was also interviewed on Wednesday in the press room. The young forward spoke after his return from Venezuela: “I am glad to be back here and I hope to be able to help the team, to make the most of the chances that the coach gives me. I know that I need to work really hard. I always train hard, waiting the chances that might happen to add my grain of sand”.
When asked about the bad moment the first team is having, Zambrano told that “the situation is complicated, but here there is a good group, a great team and we are going to rise above the bottom of the table. Lets see if we can earn the three points this Sunday”.

CD Tenerife has only played once against SD Ponferradina in the community of Leon. This was on the 2nd of December in 2006 and the game finished 1-0. The consequence of that result was the then trainer Bernt Krauss being sacked as coach of the blue and white team.
The visiting team were made up of the following players: Marc Bertrán, Culebras, Manuel (Pablo Sicilia, 58’), Clavero; San Martín, Oscar Pérez, Sergio Torres (Juan Ramón, 58’), Ayoze; Cristo (Ángel, 65’) & Frankowski. The 1-0 was scored by Fran, with a straight shot, in the first time (minute 38).
It was a sad day for the island players as Manuel Castiñeiras father died as a consequence of a heart attack that he suffered in the stand during the game.
