Those of us who are from here know what these games mean”, added Iriome, who doesn't expect to be greeted happily in Gran Canaria: “It won't be comfortable there as there is always an atmosphere. But we will not hide from this. A game like this at the end of the week is a great motivator”.

Iriome and Marc want to concentrate on what is left of the league

Iriome González talked on Wednesday in the press room in the Heliodoro Rodríguez López. The local player talked about the next league game and said, “we need to play a good game which would allow us to add three points to our total. We all need to row in the same direction”.

When asked about the league, Marc Bertrán said that “we all feel really bad and understand that the fans are unhappy. We need to accept their criticism and fight to get out of the position we are in”.

When asked about his future the player from Catalonia responded, “As I have said many time my only reality right now is CD Tenerife and I will be here working hard until the end of the season”.

Iriome Gonzalez would play in CD Tenerife whatever league they are in.

“we need to be conscious of how important this game is. The three points are very important. We can't wait for the rival to come to us because we are playing for our lives. We need to go all out”.
This is how Iriome González started 24 hours before the important game CD Tenerife plays this Sunday against Alcorcón. For the local player the match in Santo Domingo is vital for the team to save themselves in the silver league in Spanish national football.
Iriome warned about the dangers of their rival: “This season has been good for them. At home and in front of their fans, I am sure they will make things difficult for us. We need to play as a team”.
When asked about his options to play even if it is in a different position to the one he played last Saturday, the young man from Icod de los Vinos explained that “I am more comfortable on the wing than in the centre. “I feel privileged. It is a dream to play in a classic game like this. It is awesome. Who ever is in the Heliodoro, will enjoy a very emotional day”, he added.

IRIOME GONZALEZ GONZALEZ - Will he reach 100 games this weekend.

He came on the field in a storm to play for CD Tenerife in the winter of 2007. Up to the end of the 06/07 season, Iriome González was a fixed player in the first eleven of the blue and white team. He played 20 games and all them starting on the field making his first goals in glory. He scored two goals in the home derby match against UD Las Palmas in a game that finished 3-1. A few seasons later the young player has in his hand the chance to reach 100 games in the Spanish second division. This may be this weekend, in El Toralín, against SD Ponferradina.

At only 23 years old, Iriome González is about to reach 100 games in the Liga Adelante in Spanish football. The player who is multiuse was trained in the CD Tenerife junior teams played his first official game for the first team on the 14th of January 2007. The young man from the north of the island started the game on the field and played well, helping the team to a 0-0 draw. That season 06/07, he was the star of the category with offers from well known European teams. Although he didn't start to play until January he played 20 games in the season. He also scored 4 goals in that time two of them in the home Derby which helped the team to a 3-1 win in the Heliodoro Rodríguez López.
The following year he was more noticed, and played 31 games in the league. And scored four more goals against Xerez, Córdoba, Castellón & Numancia. In the next season 08/09 the year C D Tenerife ascended to the first division he played less with only 12 games. Then last year he was ceded to SD Huesca. In the Aragon region he accumulated he totalled more games in the silver level with 26 games played and another goal with Las Palmas as opposition.
At the end of the season Iriome returned to the island and as the season goes on his continues to add minutes to his total. Against Albacete he played his 99th game at this level. Only one week before in Valladolid with a strong header he helped the team to a 2-2 draw. If he in El Toralin he gets the chance to jump on the grass this will be his first century with 100 games in the Liga Adelante (74 with CD Tenerife and 26 with SD Huesca). More than anything the local player wants to celebrate this achievement with a positive result. A result that would permit the CDT players to start to scale the table and once and for all take the club out of the relegation positions they have found themselves in for so long.

Mandia and the players talk after the game against Valladolid

CD Tenerife trainer Juan Carlos Mandiá Lorenzo, started the interviews followed by several players. They talked about the game and the help the players needed from the fans in January.

“Before the game we needed 37 more points and now we need 36. If we gain the points three by three it will be easier but this draw is important”. This is how Juan Carlos Mandía started his press conference at the end of the game against Real Valladolid in Pucela.
Mandía insisted that he asking for the maximum effort from his players. He also wouldn't comment on things that might divide the team. “What counts is that we keep adding points. I am  respectful of everyone’s views, but it would be good to create a positive atmosphere. Where everyone works towards getting out of the position we are in. Lets try not to cause a breakup”.
The blue and white coach valued the positive reaction of the team to remount after both goals. “When a group is like this , it is hard. But we need to fight and that is what they did. The fact they came back twice is important. We need to make the most of this. If we can win on Sunday then this one point will count a lot more,” noted the trainer.
He refused to to give any explanation about specific points of the game. This he said was because, “If I don't make changes you ask why I didn't or that I did too late. I will not debate with you. There are things I do as trainer. I always try to make the best out of what I have to work with”.
The players interviewed stated the following:
Beranger: “We found our game. It was a good game. Every point the team adds is a positive. We just had two bad games and this 2-2 draw gives us confidence. At no time did we lose faith. We looked for goals and achieved them. Valladolid with very few chances managed two goals. This is how things work when you are at the bottom. Our aim is to gain the three points at home”.
Iriome: “I had accounts outstanding with Aitor. He told me I was going to score and I went to look for him to celebrate. It is a long time since I scored with this shirt. Julio Is also to blame for this goal. Valladolid had good chances. We didn’t have many. This point means we start the year adding points to our total. On the positive side we reacted when they scores. We need to look at the good things. If we win against Albacete then this point will count for more. We need to be strong with the help of the fans in the Heliodoro”.
Sicilia: “I am personally very happy and for the group too. We made a great effort and Iriome's goal was the compensation. We started the year well. This is a tough ground. And it was a complicated game today. We need to hold the positive. All the players are exhausted. I am convinced that we are improving and if we keep today’s attitude then we will move forward. I would like to ask the fans to help us in the game against Albacete if they help us we can find the three points. The thing that stays in my mind today is the effort the group made. That we never lost faith”.
Julio Álvarez: “We need to build on the positive factors from the game. Players who haven't been in the game added to the squad. The team worked the 90 minutes and we not brought down. I saw the team as intense and aggressive, without leaving spaces. As well we played with spirit and reacted. This is how to grow. We need to help so the club can be seen as great from the field up. I came out here to play for the team for three years. We have no doubts. We will be stronger the more games we play like this. There are always things that could be improved but the team did all they could. We ran our guts out and we have seen the prize”.

New Years Draw in Valladolid - Game notes.

A draw that tastes like a victory, Tenerife gained a point in Pucela. Mandía's lads managed to fight back to a draw twice against Real Valladolid. Nino managed the 1-1 and Iriome the 2-2. This second goal came right in the final minutes of the game.
With an electric start Valladolid scored the first time they reached the goal area (minute 8) Oscar managed to get the ball and score but their happiness didn't last long. In the tenth minute Nino put the ball in the net after a header by Prieto bounced off the post.
Just before 30 minutes played Julio Álvarez passed to Nino, who then put Justo Villar's reflexes to the test. But the Paraguay national keeper saved the ball. Minutes later Nauzet transformed a free kick just outside the goal area into 2-1.
This goal came from a foul by Prieto who then asked to be changed. The man from Andalusia felt dizzy after the blow in the head he received minutes before.
With the 2-1 on the score board, Valladolid stepped back and let CD Tenerife play. The blanquiazules had difficulty getting to the rival goal area. Minutes passed and the players started to unravel. A header from Melli ended up in the side of the net was the best play for the visitors And Jofre had a good chance to score the 3-1.
The second half started with a change in the CD Tenerife side. Iriome came on for Beranger, Juanlu moved over to the right side and Pablo the left side. The island players grew as the minutes passed. With Natalio on the wing and Julio Alvarez closer to Nino, chances were sure to come.
But when the visitors were at their best Valladolid made some dangerous plays. First Melli and then Sergio Aragoneses saved two certain goals. The game moved up and down the field. Then Óscar had a great chance to sentence the game.
As the game drew to a close it seemed that CD Tenerife struggled for air. Kome came on for Ricardo, which meant that Julio Álvarez passed to mid field and Natalio went back in the front which seemed to leave the Tenerifians with no ideas.
When everything seemed to indicate that a loss was on the cards, Iriome caught the ball in the air for a splendid header which finished in the back of the net. And that is how the game finished.
