His comment was..“ Tenerife wanted me, they were the first to call me. When Las Palmas called I knew that was the place for me. Las Palmas really wanted me, there is no comparision with what we have and what Tenerife has, He finished by stating "We are going up"

When a draw feels like we lost.

Funny day yesterday, on the back of a 0-4 win in Alcala de Henares 500 CD Tenerife fans journeyed to Gran Canaria to the town of Vecindario. One of the smallest teams in the 2B league they are on the east coast of the island. The ferry companies decided they couldn't delay the ships so 90% of the visitors went by plane. All day from where we sat in  the Comercial centre Atlantida we coud see fans arrive and spend their hard earned money in the little town. As the game time came closer the Tenerife fans walked together singing towards the grounds only to be met by jeers from UD Las Palmas supporters. Not sure why they were there if it wasn't to provoke.
The police were not to be seen but still the blue and white fans continued onto the football field.
There was no trouble at the grounds I saw, although I have seen some comments on twitter that the police felt the needed to create a path between the blue & whites and the yellow fans by hitting the Chicharreros with their batons.
The game started with the Tenerife fans in one corner together singing, a banner was produced by the Zoneros, one of the bigger fan groups saying "Pablo Sicilia was an outstanding Canarion" (From Gran Canaria not the Canaries) and there were around the edge of the corner represenative banners from thefan clubs; Armada Sur, Frente Blanquiazul, Irish Clan and Zoneros.

The game was hard fought with neither side having many shots at goal, when right at the end there was a foul against a blue and white player in the box and the linesman called penalty. A goal!!!! Perona scored but the euphoria was short lived as five minutes later from a corner Vecindario scored.
A point to the total and a journey home. The faces on the fans in the airport said it all, but those same loyal fans will be in the stands on Sunday supporting the side at 12.00 against Sporting B.
They sang yesterday as they often do:
It is really easy to support a winning tean
being a CDT fans is better

It is a pleasure to be a CD Tenerife fan, it brings friednship, loyalty and a love of the game I would never have known without the team but it can also be hard. See you Sunday in the Heliodoro

Christmas cheer

Christmas is a quiet time for football in Spain. The teams break on the last Sunday before the 24th and usually are off until about the 28th. They then start to train and they play their first game in January. The first two games of the season are away although I hope to go to both. The first is in Alcala de Henares in the outskirts of Madrid and the second in Vecindario, Gran Canaria. This second is the first organised trip of the season and the first organised trip I have been on. We are going with the Zoneros who are one of the newer fan clubs although now one of the bigger groups.

I was at their christmas presentation where the littlest members were presented with kits from the club. This was a great even and I was honoured to be there. They were also at the same time presented with a plaque from the Irish Clan, theCDT´s latest peña (fan club) for the assistance given by the Zoneros last weekend in the collection of food and toys in the last game of the season.

There have been information in the papers that the club has found some solutions for some of their financial problems. The plot of land where the youth teams train in La Laguna is heavily mortgaged and with little income the club has had difficulties. This month "EL Dia" claims the island government will take over part of the mortgage and part of the land (the back plot). The front plot will be taken over by local businessmen which leaves the club with the main training area and access to their plot. And considerably less debts. More information will be available in the AGM held at the end of this week. President Miguel Concepcion has promised to talk after the meeting to the press.

Although there are still rumours about possible signings nothing has been confirmed and I think it may well be towards the end of the month of January before we hear anything. Someone talked to me that Omar might be coming back but I can't find any source for this.

The club website today has an article withan interview with two of the strongest voices in the dressing room, Sergio Aragoneses and Kiko Raton. Their comments included their hopes for the rest of the season, how they plan to play for everything, how loyal they feel to the team, the club and the fans. "It is incredible this year, 9,000 season ticket holders, how much that helps. At home we need to be invincible as we have been up to now.  and we need to create an special atmosphere for the 10 game that are left especially against our direct rivals".
They both hope to take the team back to professional football where it belongs for the fansto bring them some happiness, especally in times like these where football has a special part in peoples hearts.

Wednesday round up -

La Roda – CD Tenerife are preparing for the first time in the clubs history to play La Roda on Sunday. The team which is based in the town La Roda in the countryside near Albacete was founded in 1999. The team worked their way up the leagues and were promoted to 2B this season after three attempts at the playoffs.

It has been generally announced in the press that Club President has authorized the signing of two players either before the winter break if they can be found or in the winter window. There are rumours again about N'gal but as there are rumours every year about this player I am not sure how serious they are.

In reverse the website www.tenerifedeportivo.com has an article about the interest Recreativo de Huelva have in youth player Abel from Fuerteventura. He still has until the end of this year on his contract which would mean after January he could negotiate with Recreativo. The player has a B contract and this last weekend actually played for the B team against La Laguna.

The club took part in the sales area Exposaldo from Thursday to Monday and their stand was manned by members of the fan club Sentimiento Blanquiazul.

The team were due to train this afternoon but due to the yellow alert this has been cancelled by coach Antonio Calderon and they are due to train again tomorrow Thursday in the El Mundialito grounds. Rubén Rosquete & Pablo Sicilia were the only two players who didn't take part in the full session. I was able to talk to Pablo last week and he hopes to be back training in full with in a month and fit to play by the end of November. Chechu Flores seems finally to be fit and lets hope he is able to take part in a full match soon.

He was one of the two players interviewed today and commented, “I wasn't in any pain today and I am optimistic I will be fit to play on Sunday. I was to be able to play as I haven't been able to help the team before now. It is one of the worst things that can happen to a player”. He continued about Sunday's game saying, “La Roda are high up in the table for a reason. They are a tough team in their home ground and have lost very few points there. We are going to go all out to win but Tenerife is one of the rivals others really want to beat”.

The other player interviewed was Ferran Tacon who started by saying, “ We are going to La Roda to win the three points. It will be good to forget the loss against Castilla and above all pick up our game. We will tough need to be careful with the team who have just beaten Castilla”. He talked about how it is always hard to beat a team in a small ground and stated, “We like games with atmosphere, it motivates us”. When asked about last weekends game in Valdebas against the Real Madrid B team his comments were interesting. “We have forgotten the loss but we have learnt from out mistakes. We need always to try to improve. We are not used to the opposing team scoring first and this weighed hard on us. The game against La Roda on Sunday will be different. We are going to play a concerted game in the Municipal stadium. We need to play hard from the beginning and play our own style of game”, he finished.

Miguel Concepcion speaks after a training sesion in La Palma

Miguel Concepción visited the team on Sunday in La Palma where they are pre-season training in Barlovento. The president of the blue and white team greeted the players and the members of the training team. Miguel Concepción was with the Club manager Juan Amador; and the sports director, Pedro Cordero.
Later in the lounge of the Hotel La Palma Romántica he had a press conference where he talked about various important theme pertaining to the club.
BARLOVENTO.- “The technical team are happy with the facilities here in La Palma. This is a place where they have good facilities both in the way of grounds and the hotel itself. Barlovento is an ideal place for the pre-training sessions”.
FIRST LOSS.- “On Thursday you could see Granadilla better formed as a team. They are used to playing together which we are not. This is a freshly formed project. There are many new players and some are still missing. I would hope against Tenisca on Saturday we will be able to see another side to the squad. In the Francisco Suárez the team were still practising. In the first half Granadilla were very much in possession but in the second half we came more into our own. I am not displeased with the way the team is going”.
SEASON TICKET SALES.- “It is normal that the fans have doubts, that they are waiting to see how the team is coming together but as the weeks pass they will see how we are working. Against UD Las Palmas, on the 12th and the 15th of August we will see the team s level”.
ERE.- “I have no doubts about the team. If some of the players included in the ERE finally stay here I expect them to work hard. The club will maintain the ERE. This is a favourable point for us, we can pay off the players, but whilst there professionals remain in the club, they need to perform as such. We will respect them but they need to respect CD Tenerife too”.
CLAIMS.- “I hope in the first few days of the week the money we need to pay the players will arrive and we can finish this off. I need to go back to Tenerife to sort this out. Nothing but solving this is in my head”. (This implies that the president will not allow the team to go down to the third division)
SIGNINGS.- “The league is long and we are going to try to fill all the places the federation permits. That said, we can't do too much until we know about the result of the ERE. So if we are still waiting for a few players there is no worry. In any case the team will be competitive. We will always be open to reinforce the team if there are any deficiencies”.
LEAVINGS.- It will be easier for the players with offers to leave. Those without an offer will I presume wait for the ERE. We have made offers to the players to ring their wages in line with 2B and some of these have accepted this. I am not sure what goes through their heads that they prefer to wait. If one of them comes tomorrow and asks to leave we will allow them to leave. In the office we are waiting , but I think that for the career's of these players it would be best if they leave for other teams”.
FRIENDLY GAMES.- “We are happy that Milagros Luis Brito is in charge of sports for the Cabildo. She is someone we know and respect. She has promised to help us with the friendly games against UD Las Palmas during August. She has said from Monday she will work on them. I am looking forward to the commitment from the government and the television. Hopefully everyone will add their little grain of sand to the organisation. We will see if we can maintain the organisation for this cup for other years. This way anyone who has renewed their season ticket by the 15th of August can go free to the game against Las Palmas”.
TELEVISIÓN. “Right now there is no contract for TV next season but I hope we will come to an agreement with Televisión Canaria. The rights are ours and we will be negotiating”.

The club sponsors pledge their continued support.

On the club website there was the following report.

This season as ever the club CD Tenerife has been able to count on the help of its sponsors. A collection of companies we have supported the club in the last few years and after the end of this season have stated their continued support for the coming season.
We are pleased to state that in spite of the relegation from 2a to 2b this season 10/11, our sponsors have had the confidence to keep supporting CD Tenerife, conscious of the repercussion that there would be if they stopped supporting us now.
The island team has received the continuous support from the Canarian tourist board, The Tenerife island government, CajaCanarias (Banca Cívica), Tv Canaria, Cepsa, Islas, Traysesa, Volkswagen (Cuatromocion SL y Hatusa), Fuentealta (www.fuentealta.es), Luanvi, Clínica Parque, Egatesa & Grupo Gomasper.
The assistance the name CD Tenerife gives to the island has not been missed by important institutions like the Canarian tourist board and they Island government. The three main sponsors are these two plus savings bank CajaCanarias (Banca Cívica). To these names can be added the other companies named above who either collaborate with of provide services for the club.
This list definitively provide CD Tenerife with the support that makes them the main island team, what ever league the team plays in. Something that the club is profoundly grateful for.
With respect to the future it is very important that these companies are prepared to continue to support the club and the assurance that they and possibly other companies will support the club in the next season. Hopefully this will lead us to a strong project that will take the first team back to the 2a division.

Pablo is home in Gran Canaria, he hopes to get well soon to help the team.

Pablo Sicilia is now at home in Gran Canaria, with his family. The l CD Tenerife defender was operated on last Tuesday in Madrid for the injury he received on the field in the match against Las Palmas. “Many people have contacted me to wish me well”, said the player in thanks for the support he has received. His only thought now is “to get better and play again”.
Pablo Sicilia was allowed to leave the hospital after the operation on his ligaments in his right leg. The CD Tenerife defender will now stay in Gran Canaria with his family. He commented today “I feel a lot better” to the club website. “The first few hours after the operation I was very uncomfortable, especially Tuesday night”, he admitted, “although now I feel better”. “I was able to come home to be with my family” he added.
The blue and white number “6” is as ever optimistic about his recovery for the next few months though he admits they will be hard. “I have had a lot of support, and this is great”, he thanked everyone. He pointed out that the club president had phoned him to see how he was and had said that the most important thing was Pablo's recovery. “I thanks everyone for their support” he repeated.
Sicilia explained that “when the accident happened and even after, I didn't think it was so bad. Not until Monday when I had tests done did I realise how serious my leg was”. He pointed out that “the operation was really quick”. “The two doctors Juanjo Valencia & Pedro Guillén communicated really well and now I just need to concentrate on getting better, that is the most important thing, so I can come back and play again”.
Lastly, Pablo Sicilia indicated that “I know when I finally get back on the grass I will play well and I hope to be able to help the team achieve the aims for the season”

Pedro Cordero presented as new sports director

Miguel Concepción was at the press conference in the Heliodoro Rodríguez López, where the new CD Tenerife sports director, Pedro Cordero was presented. He has signed for a year which will be extended to a second year if the team moves up to the second division.
The blue and white president, to start with spoke about Cordero. “He is a man with vast experience who was in the first division with Murcia & Albacete. All his life he has worked in the football industry and recently collaborated with Granada CF. He knows the two B league well and which players we will need for the new project, he can make a group which is very important for us”.
When asked about Juanjo Lorenzo, the director from La Palma said, “the new sports director is taking the reins and Juanjo Lorenzo will tell him what he has done until now. When he has done this he can leave the club”.
Miguel Concepción also reminded that “the reality is that we are in two B and we need to make a competitive team to go back to the second division”.
Lastly, the man who is finally responsible for the CDT team talked about the coach. “I am concentrated on the next game and am sure we will not lose against UD Las Palmas. The new sports director will be here and he will decide whether David Amaral will take part in this new project”, he finished.

Pedro Cordero was presented and commented on the following points in the press conference:
Thanks.- I want to thank the president for the trust he has given me and Juanjo Lorenzo for showing me all the work he has done so far. We need to be conscious that this will be a difficult year.

Trainer.- Right now our coach is David Amaral. He has a year more on his contract. We will take a decision after the match against Las Palmas. I want to see what he says. To judge what he has done and see if he is the person suitable to lead this project. Right now we will leave him in
peace to concentrate on the game against Las Palmas.

Signings.- We need to be calm and have patience as many players still have contracts. It would be very complicated to maintain these in two B and they will need to leave. To sign new player we will need to have some go. This doesn't mean that we have not been looking at the future. We need players who can adapt quickly to this new league as the jump from Segunda or La Liga can need some time to adapt. The players need to be aware of the new leave”.

Kitoko.- I have talked to Kitoko and explained that we would like him to stay. He has shown he can play at this level since he arrived. He will be an important player next season. But we can't forget that the player isn't ours and we will need to fight to have him stay in the club”.

Agreements.- I am CD Tenerife's sports director. Decisions will be made by me alone and the president will have the last word. I will be the one who signs players and the coach will train the players who come. This doesn't mean I won't listen to his opinion. We will of course take advantage of the connection we have with Udinese & Granada to benefit CD Tenerife.

Youth players.- CD Tenerife has always had one of the best youth squads in Spain. They played the play offf against Sestao , a game which I saw, and I think we can use five or sixplayerss from the squad in the first team.

Market.- The most important thing is to adapt to the new level. We need to look for quality players who know how to adapt. It will be a hard year and a lesson in humility.

Merino.- We need to keep talking to Alfredo Merino. I still have to talk more to him and than we will decide. Listening is very important and then we will see if he is the ideal person.

Pre-season.- From next week we will decide who will do pre-season with us and who will not.

I would like to ask the fans not to abandon us. I will try to recover what we lost ...- Concepcion

Miguel Concepción was reelected as president of CD Tenerife, leading the renewal of the administrative council for the blue and white team the other members are, Pedro Suárez, Conrado González, Indalecio Pérez y Ricardo Siverio.
The extraordinary meeting took place in the Sala de Conferencias del Espacio Cultural de la Caja General de Ahorros de Canarias (CajaCanarias), in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, at 17.00. The only point of order at the meeting was the naming of the mew council and the only team presenting themselves was that of Miguel Concepción.

At the meeting there were 39.675 shares represented which is 30,45 % of the total capital, concequently as there was 25% of the shares the meeting could take place. The renewal of the council was voted in by 39.045 votes no votes against and 1.58% abstained.

Miguel Concepción afterwards asked the CD Tenerife fans not to abandon the team even though there had been two relegation’s. The president of the blue and whites talked about the reality of the club, its difficult economic situation and the fact the had been obliged to restructure the squad. He also thanked Enrique Estévez & Antonio Padrón who have retired as member of the council and will go on to help with the CD Tenerife foundation.

CONTINUITY.- “My intention was to retire after the five years but I couldn't turn my back on the club. We didn't see today an alternative to my team. I could only then continue as the maximum share holder”.

FUTURE.- “We can only look forwards. This league was a disaster and now we have to get up and go on. The project is a new squad with good players from two B and some older players from Segunda. The only objective is to go back up. It will be a young squad with the youth teams having the chance to take part. We want to build a framework for a team in Segunda”.

ECONOMY- “There are difficulties that we need to solve. We have talked to CajaCanarias about a some space in the repayment structure and we are negotiating with the tax office. We are close to having an agreement and I am sure it will be signed soon. The players know what is happening, three months ago I told them if we went down we would have serious problems”.
To find the money to pay this years wages we already had to look under rocks, no one should forget that the plan was to go up. Their contracts were signed for Segunda and La liga, not for two B. If there are players who want to stay on their present wages we will need to explain things carefully as this seems unfair. We will not allow them to drown the club. That doesn't seem fair. I won't deny if the new sports director is interested in any of the actual squad we will make an effort but with a revision of his contract”.

SQUAD.- “In two B the players go from good to very good and earn between 50.000 and 120.000 euros a season. I will not change the way we work. I only name sports directors. The coach will be picked by the new sports director. Amaral ha a contract for the next season but I can't be sure that the new sports director will want him as coach, If not I will not insist”.

OPOSITION.-  “70 % of the capital in this club is split, and consequently I can't see how anyone could say I control everything. I have said and repeated that my intention was to serve five years. I said if anyone was prepared to take over I would stand aside but I am not prepared to let the club go to the wall. Where is the alternative project. The only one I can see right now is mine. If you want to kill the only project there is then go ahead. I know there are others who are capable out there but they need to step up”.

REESTRUCTURING.- “There will be some changes in the club. Some staff will have to go. Money coming in has halved and there is no choice but to lessen outgoings. That said in two B we will be he club with the highest budget. I can't talk today about quantities. We should never have gone down, it was an accident. To stay in La Liga was hard as we had a very limited budget. Last year the three teams with the lowest budget were relegated. Here and now we all need to do our bit for CD Tenerife, but I will not force anyone. With 30 million euros you cannot maintain a place in La Liga and our budget wasn't that high. Right now I can't tell why we were relegated but we all said last August that this was a team with aspirations and we were all wrong. I did everything in my power to chance things. In two B we can't pay back the debts as our objective is to make a strong team and go back up. We can't stay in this category we need to move back up as soon as possible”.

NINO.- “Has suffered with the relegation he is a good player and any team would want him as he is a great professional”.

FANS.- “The best thing that CD Tenerife has is the fan base. I am responsible for what happened in the club and therefore it is not enough to apologize I need to fix things. I would like to ask the fans not to abandon us. I will try to recover what we lost and we will work hard to achieve this. What we really have here has nothing to do with which league we play in, it is the fans, and island fan base and that of the whole region. Things are how they are and we have lost this year But I can only tell you we are going to win. I ask again please don't abandon the club”.

Pedro Cordero is the new sports director for CD Tenerife. Miguel Concepción, announced this in the press conference after the meeting in the CajaCanarias. Cordero will be presented next week. The club president has asked for time to adapt and stated that he will not give interviews until the presentation.

Pedro Cordero Sánchez (17 August 1968) was a player in the first division in Real Murcia and in Albacete where he played with Rommel Fernandez. In Segunda he played in Salamanca, Badajoz & Toledo. As sports director he has worked in Águilas (Segunda B). He is a qualified coach.

Concepción commented that, “My relationship with Pina has been a friendship since he supported my entrance into the league commission, when he was still in Ciudad de Murcia. Pina is president of Granada CF and advisor for Udinese. I have talked to him about players who might be interesting for CD Tenerife”.

“I want to make clear that Pedro Cordero will be working for CD Tenerife independently. He is experienced and this will assure he can manage the project. I can't say if he is a friend Enrique Pina”, he added.

Miguel Concepción signalled that “Juanjo Lorenzo will be leaving all the information he has as did Santiago Llorente before. Pedro Cordero will look at this information. He will then design the new team. If we have to make an effort then we will manage this somehow. I believe he is the ideal person for the job”.

“We have a strong professional coming to work here and I hope he will adapt easily. He knows the category well and will form a good group. This is especially important at this level”, he finished.

Rumours

I thought today about translating something from the club website. There are comments from several players talking about how they want to finish the season as best as they can.
But what most of you probably want to know is what is going on, what is being said on the island and what gossip says is possible.
On the zonablanquiazul there are a lot of rumors and facts there are few. Still I will share what I have read both there and in the newspapers.
As you may have read on Monday the sports director said everyone has to go the wages are too high and in two B they would be over paid. Since then there seem to have been offers for Julio Alvarez from Betis, Ricardo from Sporting and Almeria. There has been an offer for Iriome from Villarreal B and talks about Omar. Pablo has aparently has offers from three clubs including Las Palmas.
There are several rumors which say Jose Luis Oltra might come back but I can't find what they might be based on except that he said he would train Tenerife even in two B. Nino has come out and said he is not just a player for the first and second league which might mean he wants to stay. There was a twitter rumour that club President Miguel Concepcion is trying to work out how Nino might be kept in the team.
