Return of a CD Tenerife player


The first CD Tenerife signing for the season 10/11 is now on the Island. Antonio Hidalgo landed at Los Rodeos airport at mid day on Sunday on a plane form Barcelona. He was accompanied by his agent and the team sports director Santiago Llorente was at the airport to meet him.
Antonio Hidalgo, who player last season for Albacete Balompié, will be taking his medical checks in the Clínica Parque on Monday and will be presented in the press room at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López in the next few days.



Antonio Hidalgo Morilla was born in Granollers and grew up training for FC Barcelona. This offensive midfielder who is now 31 years old passed many of his years as a professional footballer here on the island.

In the summer of 2000 after long conversations the present sports director, Santiago Llorente, managed to convince Barcelona that the player should come on loan. He was very sucessful here and at the end of the 00/01 season the team ascended to the first division.

Antonio debuted in the first and second division with CD Tenerife. He played more than 100 games for the club last time around and was also captain.In the last of his 5 seasons with the club he started to score more goals (5 goals). After his contract ended he went to play for Malaga in the first division. He playerd there for 3 years scoring 28 goals in league games. Finishing his final year there with a new ascension to the first division

In the season 08/09 he took part in another ascension to the first division, in this case with Real Zaragoza, although he oly played the first half of the season. In the sesond half he played for Osasuna on loan,and they too went up to the Liga BBVA. After he had finished his contract with Zaragoza, Hidalgo acepted a contract with Albacete Balompié. Here the midfielder was decisive in their salvation in the 9/10 season scoring nine goals most of which were decisive. Including three in the last two games in the league against Girona & Cartagena. Inspite of the teams desire to renew Hidalgo had decided the time had come for a change.

Many teams had approached him to come a play for them but after he knew that CD Tenerife was interested in him that was that. The player was in the Montilivi stadium on the 13th of June 2009 for the game against Girona and saw the team who made his career return to the first division. Now he is back with " maximium faith" and with more experience to play for the club where he played most of the profesional games in his career. With 300 league games and 45 goals a player who wants to help CD Tenerife will be sure to be greeat.
