Interviews after the game against UD Salamanca

With the calm nature he is becoming known for Antonio Tapia started his press conference on Saturday after the match against Salamanca by insisting that the team is on the right path.

“These are three important points. In that last two games we didn't manage a win but in each game we have done a good job and played good football. Winning the three points will give us much needed confidence. This is certainly the way we need to go”, the trainer started saying.
“We have been better in defence giving away fewer balls. We scored two gaols and had several more chances. This is how I want to see the team play. We need to remain calm especially after this win as it gives the players three much fought for points. Now we need to concentrate on the next game. At home we can't give away any more points”, he added.
When asked about Kitoko the coach replied “he trained very little with us but it would seem that he can balance the team in midfield but the sending off was a pity. The player today all did a good job”.
“The recent arrivals have had chances. In future games other players will have chances. We need to rotate the players. The main idea is to add points to our total through good play. The team, that fans and the club all deserve a positive week”, he added.
“In the second division and more so right now nobody will gift you anything. There is little difference between all the teams, we have been a long time at the bottom of the table and we are working hard to achieve our objectives which right now are to move out of the relegation area of the league”, he concluded.
Four players were also interviewed after the match against UD Salamanca-CD Tenerife, all were pleased that the team had finally won a game after more than two months without a victory. They all commented that this was the best the team had played this season.
Marc Bertrán: “This was a good game, we were more together. That said our opponents again managed to score from a still ball. This is something we need to work on. We are now five weeks without a loss. This gives us faith. We are moving towards salvation. The one negative thought is we lose Kitoko next weekend. Towards the end Salamanca made things difficult, especially as we had one less but we defended well. The idea is to play a good match against Rayo, the way we need to go is to receive fewer goals”.
Hidalgo: “This was an important victory, a hard fought one. We have again managed to take charge of the game. The team need to keep on working and this victory has helped. Our most important weapon was to control the midfield this is working better. We need to fill the Heliodoro for the next game. We all know there is a long way to go but Kitoko has given us a great push on the ground”.
Kitoko: “I am really pleased we won but being sent off was a blow. The three points were most important and the work done by the whole team. The first yellow card I can see but not the second one. But what really counts is the team were good. I played really well and I am happy about that and that we won. I feel really comfortable with my new colleges and have settled in well”.
Luis García: “Today we bit our teeth and got on with things. We did all the right things to win and we had a little luck. When we talked during the week someone said if we play well we will win and so it was. We practised strategic actions and these really worked out. We can't give up playing the ball, our squad is too good for that. In the play where the goal was disallowed I was pushed and there was a foul whistled. These are things that happen in football. Although our rival managed to get balls near the goal, I think we were better in defence”.

Sebastián Dubarbier hopes for a win.

Sebastián Dubarbier talked to the press during which he admitted that there might be a chance that he will start in tomorrow's game: “I don't know if I will be starting tomorrow, but I am excited that I might get that chance”, adding that he felt, “comfortable on the island and in the team both professionally and personally”.
When asked about the style of game being imposed by Antonio Tapia, the Argentine player signaled that “the coach wants us to play well, that the group is strong along all lines. If we are capable of doing what he wants, we will have good chances to move forward” he continued.
Dubarbier, also sees the future with optimism. “Since I arrived I can see a great squad, with the strength to go forward. Now we need to think about winning all the games we can both home and away”.
The blue and white “22” reasoned the recent draws saying, “In the last few games we played well to start with. Looking from outside it was impossible to lose. But the opposition scored goals almost without trying and then everything changes”.
He continued on this theme with the words, “It is then hard to turn things around. We had no luck, but if we work a little harder we can make it together. We need as a team to be more compact more together and the fans can help us too”.
Lastly, Sebastián Dubarbier talked about that CD Tenerife finds itself in the table. “From what I can see the points are very equal. With a good run you move up and a bad one sinks you. Against Salamanca you will see a hard fought game, between two teams who need to win” he finished.

Beranger looks forward to playing again.

Gregory Beranger has been named to play in the game on Saturday in Salamanca, now that he has finished his federation punishment which kept him from playing against Girona. The French player was in the press room in the Heliodoro on Thursday and spoke about how he sees things right now in CD Tenerife.
“We want to play this game. Right now the most important factor is to win the three points”, he started explaining. For him the arrival of Antonio Tapia to the bench has meant that things have been turned around: “In the last two matches, the trainer has given us responsibility in how the ball progresses”.
When asked about the new arrivals to the club in the winter market, the defender commented that “They are here to help. We are working hard so they integrate quickly and can help us”.
Beranger also added his point of view about the home game against Girona which he was unable to play: “At 1-3 against us it would have been easy to say we couldn't win, but the team demonstrated that they have character and can come back from any situation”.
The blue and white player sees the path to recovery as the one the team is on right now: “If we can further improve the defence it will be easy. It is hard to win if your opponent scores two goals. The idea is to keep our goal at zero this weekend” he finished.

Antonio Tapia takes 18 players to Salamanca

Antonio Tapia offered on Thursday the list of players who will be travelling to the mainland for the game on Saturday against Salamanca.

The CD Tenerife coach is taking 18 players with him to the mainland. Six of these are different to the squad last Sunday.
Players who are repeating are: Luis García, Marc Bertrán, Antonio Hidalgo, Pablo Sicilia, Nino, Omar, Natalio, Kome, Juanlu Hens, Julio Álvarez, Dubarbier & Iriome. To this are added the two new players, Kitoko & Igor; returning to the squad are the players who were under Federation punishment, Melli, Beranger & Luna; Also travelling with the team is CD Tenerife B keeper, Dani Mederos. Players left at home are: Ricardo, Mikel, Bellvis, Aitor, Prieto & Sergio Aragoneses.
The Tenerife team trained for the last time on the island this wee on Thursday morning in the Heliodoro behind closed doors form 10am for 90 minutes.
Ricardo didn't train due to a sprained ankle he suffered yesterday, Wednesday. The rest of the squad were present and also from the CD Tenerife B, Dani Mederos &Josmar Zambrano.
The team will leave for the Spanish mainland early Friday. Their plan departs for Madrid at 07.20 where they will travel by bus to Salamanca. One in Salamanca they will have the last training session of the week in the Anexo Helmántico, from 5pm Canarian time.

Coach Antonio Tapia announced after the list was given that, “Most important in Salamanca is the chance to add three points. But we are going with the intention to improve the level of our game. What counts is to better the aspects which stop us adding points in threes. We need to concentrate on this”.
The message Antonio Tapia send is clear. The new CD Tenerife trainer knows the team finds itself in a sensitive position but understands that to get out of the bottom of the table good football needs to be played. This is how he explained it in the press conference, “If you think this match will be easy you are in for an disagreeable surprise. It is true that they have had a bad run, but this means they also need the points. For this reason they will do their best to move the game forward.
“When we look at results soon victories will reinforce our work. We are going to try to do everything within our capacities” when asked about the players “the mental aspects of the game have affected the players. We need to try, through our play to reach out for results and from there a more positive attitude will come”.
The way to overcome this crisis is therefore through results and with: “Concentration, intensity and attitude.
Tapia didn't want the team to hide behind typical excuses either: “I believe that after 22 games the team is where it deserves to be due to they way they have played. After half a league luck counts for little. In a game possibly, because of some error or a bad referees decision. But after 22 games we can't believe that we are at the bottom by chance”.
The chief trainer for CDT didn't want to give clues about who exactly would be starting in the Helmántico, only saying that “We will be playing the same style of game. We may change some things, but basically the same style”.
Tapia was also asked about the possibility of not descending at the end of the league to which he replied “salvation is to have 48 or 50 points. But right now our mission is to play well improve what we can, right now the numbers are not so important”

CD Tenerife 1 - UD Salamanca 2

This wasn't how it was meant to be. The start of the season. The first home game. Everyone was there with maximum enthusiasm. The zoneros had a giant Tifo with "together we can make it back to the first division". The Frente Blanquiazul had hold-ups signs with the number of season ticket holders for the last years. The final figures haven't been anounced but at Saturday lunchtime over 13,000 season tickets had been sold. Thursday new sales start again for anyone who still needs a season ticket.
There in the stadium the fans awaited their heros and it seemed to start well with Natalio scoring his first goal for the team putting the score at 1-0. But it wasn't to be. Salamanca scored two goals and here we have the worst start to the league since 59/60
