I would like to ask the fans not to abandon us. I will try to recover what we lost ...- Concepcion

Miguel Concepción was reelected as president of CD Tenerife, leading the renewal of the administrative council for the blue and white team the other members are, Pedro Suárez, Conrado González, Indalecio Pérez y Ricardo Siverio.
The extraordinary meeting took place in the Sala de Conferencias del Espacio Cultural de la Caja General de Ahorros de Canarias (CajaCanarias), in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, at 17.00. The only point of order at the meeting was the naming of the mew council and the only team presenting themselves was that of Miguel Concepción.

At the meeting there were 39.675 shares represented which is 30,45 % of the total capital, concequently as there was 25% of the shares the meeting could take place. The renewal of the council was voted in by 39.045 votes no votes against and 1.58% abstained.

Miguel Concepción afterwards asked the CD Tenerife fans not to abandon the team even though there had been two relegation’s. The president of the blue and whites talked about the reality of the club, its difficult economic situation and the fact the had been obliged to restructure the squad. He also thanked Enrique Estévez & Antonio Padrón who have retired as member of the council and will go on to help with the CD Tenerife foundation.

CONTINUITY.- “My intention was to retire after the five years but I couldn't turn my back on the club. We didn't see today an alternative to my team. I could only then continue as the maximum share holder”.

FUTURE.- “We can only look forwards. This league was a disaster and now we have to get up and go on. The project is a new squad with good players from two B and some older players from Segunda. The only objective is to go back up. It will be a young squad with the youth teams having the chance to take part. We want to build a framework for a team in Segunda”.

ECONOMY- “There are difficulties that we need to solve. We have talked to CajaCanarias about a some space in the repayment structure and we are negotiating with the tax office. We are close to having an agreement and I am sure it will be signed soon. The players know what is happening, three months ago I told them if we went down we would have serious problems”.
To find the money to pay this years wages we already had to look under rocks, no one should forget that the plan was to go up. Their contracts were signed for Segunda and La liga, not for two B. If there are players who want to stay on their present wages we will need to explain things carefully as this seems unfair. We will not allow them to drown the club. That doesn't seem fair. I won't deny if the new sports director is interested in any of the actual squad we will make an effort but with a revision of his contract”.

SQUAD.- “In two B the players go from good to very good and earn between 50.000 and 120.000 euros a season. I will not change the way we work. I only name sports directors. The coach will be picked by the new sports director. Amaral ha a contract for the next season but I can't be sure that the new sports director will want him as coach, If not I will not insist”.

OPOSITION.-  “70 % of the capital in this club is split, and consequently I can't see how anyone could say I control everything. I have said and repeated that my intention was to serve five years. I said if anyone was prepared to take over I would stand aside but I am not prepared to let the club go to the wall. Where is the alternative project. The only one I can see right now is mine. If you want to kill the only project there is then go ahead. I know there are others who are capable out there but they need to step up”.

REESTRUCTURING.- “There will be some changes in the club. Some staff will have to go. Money coming in has halved and there is no choice but to lessen outgoings. That said in two B we will be he club with the highest budget. I can't talk today about quantities. We should never have gone down, it was an accident. To stay in La Liga was hard as we had a very limited budget. Last year the three teams with the lowest budget were relegated. Here and now we all need to do our bit for CD Tenerife, but I will not force anyone. With 30 million euros you cannot maintain a place in La Liga and our budget wasn't that high. Right now I can't tell why we were relegated but we all said last August that this was a team with aspirations and we were all wrong. I did everything in my power to chance things. In two B we can't pay back the debts as our objective is to make a strong team and go back up. We can't stay in this category we need to move back up as soon as possible”.

NINO.- “Has suffered with the relegation he is a good player and any team would want him as he is a great professional”.

FANS.- “The best thing that CD Tenerife has is the fan base. I am responsible for what happened in the club and therefore it is not enough to apologize I need to fix things. I would like to ask the fans not to abandon us. I will try to recover what we lost and we will work hard to achieve this. What we really have here has nothing to do with which league we play in, it is the fans, and island fan base and that of the whole region. Things are how they are and we have lost this year But I can only tell you we are going to win. I ask again please don't abandon the club”.

Pedro Cordero is the new sports director for CD Tenerife. Miguel Concepción, announced this in the press conference after the meeting in the CajaCanarias. Cordero will be presented next week. The club president has asked for time to adapt and stated that he will not give interviews until the presentation.

Pedro Cordero Sánchez (17 August 1968) was a player in the first division in Real Murcia and in Albacete where he played with Rommel Fernandez. In Segunda he played in Salamanca, Badajoz & Toledo. As sports director he has worked in Águilas (Segunda B). He is a qualified coach.

Concepción commented that, “My relationship with Pina has been a friendship since he supported my entrance into the league commission, when he was still in Ciudad de Murcia. Pina is president of Granada CF and advisor for Udinese. I have talked to him about players who might be interesting for CD Tenerife”.

“I want to make clear that Pedro Cordero will be working for CD Tenerife independently. He is experienced and this will assure he can manage the project. I can't say if he is a friend Enrique Pina”, he added.

Miguel Concepción signalled that “Juanjo Lorenzo will be leaving all the information he has as did Santiago Llorente before. Pedro Cordero will look at this information. He will then design the new team. If we have to make an effort then we will manage this somehow. I believe he is the ideal person for the job”.

“We have a strong professional coming to work here and I hope he will adapt easily. He knows the category well and will form a good group. This is especially important at this level”, he finished.

The coaches words after the game.

David Amaral wasn't especially critical when he talked about the game played by CD Tenerife in Los Cármenes, where the team suffered another loss. The Coach from Tenerife discussed how the players had fought on the field and how they didn't deserve the results they had seen.
The blue and white trainer commented that “This cost us badly, we didn't read the match well. We stepped back and this gave Granada space to move towards the goal. Generally they played a good game, working together. They played within the limits of their capabilities”.
“We are going to keep working as professionals looking to gain all the points we can. We tried to add some here but t is hard against a team who are fighting to ascend a division. We need to play with pride at all times. We need to finish with dignity. Granada is a team we should look at. A team who just came up from 2B who play well together”, he added.
Without looking for excuses, the coach recognised that “a team with so much difficulty on the field normally, with ten men will find things even harder. They were maintaining a level and then the red card made things worse. Granada knew how manoeuvre the game and that counts”.
When asked about the players who will be missing in the next few games the blue and white coach explained, “I need to thank the players. In the break Iriome came and told me that he couldn't play on. Melli's injury could be bad and we will be missing Julio Alvarez for accumulation of cards”.
David Amaral lamented that since he had arrived there hadn't been the expected change: “We took over the team at a difficult time and hope to make changes, but it didn't work. We wanted to help the club as they are in a complicated situation. We need to think about next year but first we need to finish this season”.

Saturday interviews with Igor and Antonio Hidalgo.

Igor was one of the two players who was interviewed on Saturday after the training session on Saturday morning in the Maracena grounds. The CD Tenerife forward talked about the match this Sunday in Granada in Los Cármenes and the state of mind the squad has.
“We want to demonstrate that we are still capable even in this difficult situation. Right now we need to concentrate on Granada and how to win. We are approaching a difficult game both because of the rival and because few teams have managed to achieve points in this stadium. The group knows how difficult it will be”, indicated the Brazilian.
“We need to think about how we are going to play not what is going on in other games. The situation is difficult but not impossible. We need to fight to the end”, she added.
When asked about himself, Igor pointed out “I am pleased to have been called to the squad again and hope to get the chance to play. I am here for the coach”.
“The best we can do is play this Sunday. We want to win. We want to feel that feeling you get with a win again. If we work hard we can do this”.
This is how Antonio Hidalgo started his interview with the press. The Catalan mid fielder knows how difficult it will be in Los Cármenes on Sunday, but he knows the team are professional and they will give everything.
“It will be a good game in a full stadium. We would have liked to have come here with other results behind us, but it isn't so. We will need to go out and play at the same level as our rivals. If we play that way we will have chances. The game against Alcorcon is a good reference” he explained.
Hidalgo had hoped that CD Tenerife had achieved a different result last weekend, when they lost against Villarreal B: “I trust that we will look better. As a player I want to compete well against rivals at their level. This year has been hard but the reality is that we are capable of doing this”.
“We need to demonstrate to the coach that we can do this and that we can fight to the end. We need to show this in every game” he concluded.

David Amaral hopes that this time the team will have an away win.

David Amaral was interviewed on Friday and started talking about here and now, “I am only thinking about the present, we can't move from that thought or look towards the future. We need to try to change this run. We need to work intensely and to see the players put the past behind them. The situation is very hard but we need to keep trying”.
The coach from Arico, talked about how the players needed to think positively. “The footballers need to take chances and play with faith. They need to go out and look for the ball. When you don't win it is normal to see the squad with their heads down but every week I have seen them fight back and be ready to play again at the weekend. Lets see if this time we can make the game count between us all”.
He continued saying, “We are going to try to play better with the aim to win. It will not be easy but we travel to Granada with the hope to win. Granada are a team who are playing well. They play good football and we know that at home in their own stadium they are a difficult rival. But we are going to do our job well and try to achieve a positive result”.
In reference to the fact he had named Moreno, Ayoze & Germán, from the youth team to travel he assured the press that “We believe that these players can help us. They will travel with us and possibly might play”.
David Amaral, also, commented that the team are hungry to achieve a good result in Los Cármenes. “Day by day we are doing goo things. Things are harder at home than away. In Alcorcon the team played well. I see the whole squad with a desire to compete and they just need to do this with their head screwed on paying attention on the field”.
Lastly the coach talked about CD Tenerife's position in the league table, “We are realistic and everyone of us can make the calculations. We are trying to win games any way we can. We will fight for the fans who support us, for the club who are trying everythign and for the colours and the shirt we wear which we have respect for”, he finished.

Ayoze, German and Bellvis interviewed before they travel to Granada

Bellvís, Ayoze & Germán were the three players who were interviewed on Friday in the press room of the Heliodoro.
The defender from Valencia talked first, starting by saying about his condition, “I hurt myself training some days ago. I couldn't finish the match against the ‘B’, but I now feel better. I hope by Sunday to be fit for the match”.
In reference to the state of the CD Tenerife team, Bellvís confessed that “I am hopeful to change this bad run. We are only thinking about playing well and trying to play the best we can. We need to play very well if we want to gain points in Granada”.
The blue and white ‘4’, spoke of his thanks to the coaches confidence, “I am please with the trust he has given me”, and commented lastly in the chances to win in Granada, “we will need to work together and make the most of the chances as they present themselves”.
Ayoze Placeres, then talked about being picked for the squad, “Lets see if we have the chance to play whilst we are there”. He talked about himself and the other youth player German who have both been picked for the first time. He continued, “whether we get the chance or not we are pleased, happy and excited to be going. The hope to play for the first team is always there. We are talking about the second division and for our home team. I feel really good to have been chosen”.
Germán Sáenz, to finish, pointed out that “we need to make the most of the chances and give everything. We have worked with the first team and know how hard the demands are physically so we will need to make force ourselves”.

"We need to finish as high as we can" said Ricardo Leon

Ricardo León & Mikel Alonso were the two players who were interviewed in Ciudad Deportiva Geneto-Los Baldíos. The mid-fielders for the blue and white team both think the classification position the team finds itself in conditions their game against Granada this weekend.
For Ricardo “it is clear the the end of the league for us is difficult and we want to finish the best we can. There are still possibly chances. The group feels bad, hurt. The season has been hellish, both personally and generally”.
“Before playing at home in the Heliodoro it was a fortress. This year at home we have had no consistency. After going up and the year in La Liga, living through this situation hurts. And this has been my home for a long time”, explained the local player.
“Right now everyone of us needs to give their best. There is nothing to lose. We need to give everything, to forget the pressure and play football. If play how we should, we could show Granada a thing or two” he concluded.
Mikel Alonso answered “I am working hard to play this week”, when he was asked about his chances to start in Los Cármenes because of the player who can't play in midfield.
For the Basque player, “We need to change the run. We want to do this but we need to play well and against a strong rival like Granada its hard. We need to concentrate on the game, on the best of our play”.
“We need to win all the points we can. We have an obligation and need to try our best. This is an important game. The calculations are as they are. We can all add up and it is normal that you do this but we need to think about how to play” he finished.

Pablo Sicilia may be the third player to reach 150 games with CDT this season

If there is one team who have affected player Pablo Sicilia in his professional career without doubt it is C. D. Tenerife. The blue and white defender is one game short of 150 games played in the league for the island team. In this way he is very close to the figures recently reached by Sergio Aragoneses & Ricardo.
The game this Wednesday against Granada CF might be for Pablo Sicilia his 150th game with the blue and white shirt on. The island defender arrived to play for the team in the season 2006/07 and since then has always played a high number of games each season. The statistics for these years speak for themselves: 38 games (06/07), 32 (07/08), 36 (08/09), 34 (09/10) & 9 (10/11).
After passing through the junior teams of Atlético de Madrid including some minutes in the first team, Pablo Sicilia accepted the offer to come to Tenerife and started his professional career. Before that he had played in the second B league and here he had the chance to make the step to the silver level of Spanish football.
He made his debut in Almería-CDTenerife which was a triumph for the Canarians with the result 0-1. Then there were another 148 more games of which 34 were in the BBVA League. In this year an unfortunate injury in the final of the Trofeo Teide he was unable to compete. Two weekends ago he started against Ponferrada and scored the only goal. And he also started in the derby last weekend, against UD Las Palmas.
This Wednesday he will be in the Heliodoro Rodríguez López stadium for the game against Granada CF (20:30 ). If the new CD Tenerife, trainer Antonio Tapia, lets him play, Pablo Sicilia will have played 150 league games for the blue and whites. With this the objetive to add three vital points to their total and bring them loser to the safety positions in the table.

Change of Dates

Agreement between the clubs now there is just the waiting for the federation to agree.

Club Deportivo Tenerife will hear in the next few days the result of when the missing game against Granada C.F. will be played. Both presidents have agreed in principal on the 29th of January as the date that they could both approve of.  CD Tenerife would have preferred the 12th of January but Granada C.F. Were not keen as this would have given the club three away games in a row. Their preferred date was the 19th of January, a Wednesday three days before one of the biggest games in the season the derby against Las Palmas.

Firstly  there is the need to obey the federation rules. These establish that the game must  must be played before the second round of the league is started. Therefore before the 23rd of January.  With this in mind there are four Wednesdays that would be possible; 22nd of December & the 5th 12 and 19th of January. The first is no the day the players want to play as this will shorten their holidays; the second is unlikely as the stadium is used for the city of Santa Cruz's visit by the three kings and the last date doesn't' interest CD Tenerife as it is three days before  the big home game.

Up to here everything is clear: for Tenerife there is the 12th of January The problem then starts as the favourite game for Granada is the 19th of January just before the main game. Why? The group from Granada are away in Villarreal for the 9th of January and also away on the 15th against Elche. To travel to Tenerife between these two dates would be a blow to their planning.,

The problem then arises  because the 29th of January is after the first round finishes, but before the second round starts. In this case Tenerife & Granada need to convince the Federation that the second criteria is more relevant than the first.

And if that doesn't work out? If Tenerife & Granada don't manage to agree another date it will be the federation who decide what date the game is played.  This is the least interesting possibility for Tenerife as here we would have no negotiating power and would be at the mercy of the organising body.

It would seem, therefore, we are in for a long and tedious negotiation. For Tenerife appear not to have managed to gain control when the game was suspended now the difficult part will be to convince the LFP.

Will the game be played?

We are all crossing our finger to see if Granada CF manage to catch a flight this afternoon. The airports should open but the question is will they manage to get here in time for tomorrow's game.

Nino, Marc Bertran and Iriome collaborated in the video clip made recently by the Cabildo (Island Government) to promote how accessable the island is for people with discapacities. You can see them in the clip below.

David Prieto and Antonio Hidalgo comment on the next game.

David Prieto & Antonio Hidalgo we the two players who attended the press conference on Wednesday in the press room in the El Mundialito training grounds.
The Sevillian defender, was first, he spoke of the recent team triumphs. “We hope to continue on the path we are on and move up the table. We can't stop now. Defensively we are working well. If we can stop the goals coming in again it will be easier to to win especially with the offensive potential we have”.
Following this theme Prieto continued saying “We need to go out strongly as the group is growing and we are now more confident. The results are what we needed and we need to continue this way, all of us not just me are improving no end. Thanks to the team each individual can grow and progress to be able to help the games to a win”.
When asked about the jump the blue and whites made up the table, the lad from Andalusia pointed out that “The classification is there, but we need to concentrate on the game against Granada. Adding points little by little we will move away from the bottom of the table”.
To finish David Prieto, analyzed the next league rival. “Granada has a squad who are at a very good level. I know several of their players who were in Jerez with me and I know that our next rival will not be gifting us anything”.
Antonio Hidalgo, for his part started talking about his chances to return to starting for the team due to the accumulation of yellow by Ricardo & Natalio. “One always works hard to play within the first eleven. It would seem because of the absence of a couple of players. The coach has various choices but I may have an option to play and if this chance arrives this Sunday I will try to make the most of it”.
About the moment the team finds themselves right now the midfielder from Barcelona signaled that “from the beginning we were looking for a positive dynamism, lets see if we continue this way, although the team coming are a fairly complicated rival. We have had some tough moments and we need to leave them behind but not forget them, Then we need to keep growing. I understand the improvement is evident”.
Hidalgo, certainly advised that there should be caution and they should thing game by game. “You need to change little by little. Nothing would help if we look beyond the next game this weekend. Against Nástic we took a body blow although we have managed to overcome this”, he concluded.
